check the tranny fluid, if it's all dark and nasty don't buy it. it sounds like it needs a new or rebuilt tranny

damn i am lucky I sold my 94 jeep in 2006 for 5000 bucks. oh and it had 330,000 on it.

Unless it's a stickshift... and then you're golden and won't have to worry about stupid things like transmission fluid.

Yeah... standard transmissions have gear oil, which you should check occasionally.. but it's basically just lube like in any other part of the car like suspension and axle joints, or your differential.

It doesn't leak like automatics will, nor does it need regular replacement like motor oil.

I think I have added oil to my suby's transmission one time ever... and it was out of curiosity of how to do it... and it sure didn't need much even over 200k.
