189SV or 179 Madens?

I know i should demo, but im getting some new skis for graduation. What would you guys suggest for riding alta/snowbird? Im riding 06 179 PE's at +5 (by the graph) right now.

Im leaning to getting the 189 SV's mounted at +5 right now, im about 6'0 185 pounds. Im a good skiier, not great though, from the midwest and used to skiing hardpack/ice 60+ days a year.

you dont want made'ns. it's a lot of ski. a LOT of ski. get the SV's, +5 would be good for you. What bindings are you going to use on them?

yeah sorry seth vicious.

ill be mounting either with a pair of look p14s or taking the p12 jibs off my enemies and selling those.

EXACTLY!! ALot of ski is good. I ride the Seth pistols right now and i wish i would have gone with the madens. Dont mount +5. mine are +2 and they are great. I use them in the park and for big lines. Go with the Maden ak. You will not regret it!

you wish now, after riding the pistols though. for a midwesterner coming out here getting use to the snow will be a step, let alone getting used to a ski that's almost double underfoot than what he's used to. Really he should move out here and try some shit to see what he likes. You know his skiing style is going to completely change. On the other hand, I'm assuming he's going to have the cash to buy a big ski later on, too.

well the ski im on right now is 85mm under waist (06 PE), neither one of these skis is even close to twice that wide, but i get your point, and im sure my riding style will change.

i wish i could demo and buy later, but things will be tight financially for a year or so, and these skis will be a graduation present.

i decided on the SV, its wide enough for big days, and narrow enough to be my every day ski. i figure i can buy some dedicated powder sticks later on if i want. im going to mount at +3, not planning on switch landing in pow or anything... thanks for all your input.

sweet. reason I ask is that I have some all-black rossi FKS 185's from this season still sitting new in the box that I'd let go for $175.

for reference, i'm riding p14's on them right now with 11 in the toe and 10 in the heel and I still pop out. I'm definitely going to throw a pair of fks's on them for next season. I don't want to max out the DIN and trash the binding since you cant get the old school axial anymore.

How bout neither... i just got a pair custom made from Capital skis. 193 cm long, 156/126/154. Stiff as Bandit B4's. WHAMMY.

mount ur SV's farther forward than plus 3....mine are at +8 and they could still be farther forward for sure...not having any tail sucks...

Well, yea, if you want a ski that completely tip dives if you aren't leaning way back all the time. The middle of the ski is +7.5

I mounted my pistols at 3.5, they rock right there. all my powder skis from now on will be mounted 4 back from dead center.

ive never skied the madens or SV but i did ski the pistols once and hated them. those things are complete noodles. i tink the madens are stiffer.

On a side note, i also grew up in the midwest skiing on public enimies. i made the switch to motherships 2 years ago, and this last season i stepped it up to 190 goats. Im only 5 11 and 150lbs and ive never skied on a better ski. so i guess what im saying is if you like speed then get the 189 madens
