189 or 179

im thinkin right now about wheather i want to get a 189 pistols(or somethin similar at that height)or a 179 pistol or somethin simialar. i never ride park, mainly big mountain and stuff like that.not to many man made jumps in my style. im like 5'9 which is 180cm. so i could go with a ski exactly even with me, or 10 cm taller. i think i might grow some more, doctor said possibly 6 foot, but iv still yet to see that come along. any suggestions.
 
that's a tough one. you might want to look into something like last years 186 pollards, or the 185 arv. something in the middle. you can always sell in after the season and buy something new next year.
 
5'9 is 175.5 cm, so it would be absolutely crazy to get something that's 13.5 cm taller than you. ok not really that crazy, but still a bit much.
 
there are some many skis out there. im pretty sure 6ft = 183cm.

Anyhow there are alot of skis for example:

185 arv

188 jp vs julien

182 frnt vct

183 atomic pimp daddy

179 K2 Made'n's

183 head supermojo if you don;t need a twin

umm oh 183cm Volkl Gotma

in fact if you can get any ski you want, for what you want to do, get the 183 gotma.

You actually have access to pistols in both those lengths? I'm shocked.
 
oops, thats probably why im failing math. hehe. but yea, so 189s to long even for the skiing i do. i think ill demo some out maybe. i rode 185 rockets and didnt mind em that much, so a couple more centimeters wont seem to big.
 
a friend is selling some 189 pistols in perfect shape for 300 if anyone is interested let me know!
 
ok, so i just went a measured myself up against my Mike Nicks that are 178. and im a inch taller.....soo i think iv grown a bit since my last pysical.

Volkl Gotma 183cm.

If i where you i would be all over this ski.
 
You could do 189's with out much problem if your a strong skier. I would use 179 to 175 unless you weight like 170+, but either will be fine.
 
The two skis closest in style to the Seths and a bit better sizes are the 185cm ARV which is now a 96mm waist and the 187 4FRNT MSP's which are 97mm waist I believe.

Huh? Pistol/Vicious is a twin tip, the 189 will ski shorter, like a 180ish, not sure the running length on the ski but the effective edge is waaaay less than a square tail 189 (compared to the 190 Volkl Explosiv with square tail, it will be short).

I'd get the 189 for sure if you aren't doing park. I'm 5'10 and I ski a 188cm for big mountain, it's awesome, I would even go longer if I was in better shape. The extra length makes landing drops and going really fast easy. The 189 pistol is stronger than the 179 as well, more stable. Don't be afriad of the length, especially if you mount it a bit forward like most do, it will be fine, don't go short you'll overski it and regret it, longer ski makes you ski better/faster.
 
the SV actually is about 193cm long, but because it has a large twin it skis shorter.

I'm 5'10" and the 189 will be fine for me. If you 5'9" and ski in AK then I would get the 189 and just mount foward. It will float better, be better at speed, better off drops, and your not in the park so it doesn't matter.
 
yeah if you ask me the volkl gotomas seem like the best idea on the post. that is if you can handle the stiffness its quite alot more intense than the solomom P.R. ... im 5'4'' and i ride 183 twins and its fine, a bit of bitch for spins but like you i spend most of my time in natural terrain so longer is better

the gotoma's should be no biggy if you have the leg strength.
 
those arnt a twin buddy^. but yea, iggy skier, your 5'10? thought you were taller cus of your skis. haha, so yea iv decided now that it really dosnt matter now. i could go with both.

if i were you I would go 179 made'n or 189 seth vicious.
 
I am 5' 9" and 165 and I ride 175 ARV's in the powder. Yes They feel slightly short, and yes a 185 would give me more flotation, but in trees and all across the mountain they are perfect. In park they rock. And on groomers I can go as fast as I would ever need. I haven't tried the 185's, and I will try a larger ski before I buy my next pair, I am just saying for your height, around a 175-180 would be great all around, and even in the powder.
 
i got a pair of mike nicks for just dickin around, and then on crud and pow days id use like the vicous or pistol. but yea, i think ill demo both of em, although thats gonna be hard cus im usin em for tele. sooo, 189 would be interesting, although badass, and 179 would be more fun in some conditions.

yea right now im thinkin 179 made'n or 179 pistol. a 189 tele ski i think is to big for a kid like me. im a powerful skier no doubt, but i weight like 145. im not exactly the beastly-est of kids. but i am powerful damnit!
 
well if your 180cm tall get 189's as you should be able to handle them ok @ 5'11" if your 5'9" get the 179. I still dont know which height you are. the 5'9" or 5'11"
 
the 179 would be the better choice because-

1) you are a small guy

2) the width still gives it plenty of surface area

3) the 179 will be more nimble in trees

4) my penis is bigger than yours

5) they are just plain sick. mount em up at +5 and use them for everything.

yes it was. they seem to flock to norwegians that resenmle trees. mmmmm. i am willing to pass on that privelage to someone else for a mere $200.
 
dude ,,,im 5'8 and i ride seths in a 189 but im centerd but i ski at powderking and the snow is crazy ,,,,but it\f all your riding is hard pack then just stick with the 179
