187msp vs. 185arv

ARVs are way better in my opinion. I skied the 187 msps a few times this season and hated them.

Hey, I skied the 185 ARV for the first half of this season and rocked the 187s for the second, and I must say, I am in love with the MSPs. I bought them as a purely big mountain ski, but ended up skiing them all through the spring in the park too instead of my TMs. They rock everything, alot more stiff and stable than the arvs. but I'm a big kid, 6'1" and 180lbs. So I like something with a little more hot sauce behind it. But I'll tell you that the ARVs are quite sick too. They were a little soft for me, but they were SICK park skis, sweet flex for park and chillin in pow. Just not enough to stay stable in three day old Tahoe crap. Also the ARVs have super thin bases. Do not hit anything or you will have a core shot guarenteed, other than that they held up fine, and the 4frnts are bomber, I strait up ran over rocks without even a scratch on those.

So Basically what I'm saying is MSP= Stiff and still rocks out in the park, ARV= sexy armada flex, incredible in the park, smooth as butter all over the mountain, just not enough power to blast through sketchy snow.

well im 6'0" 185lbs and this year i had the 179 pe's and i liked them for doing some stuff in the park like spins. but there just too short, whimpy, and too skinny for any of the stuff i wanted them for. which one out of the 185arv,187msp,or 189 seth. is really stiff but lively enough to rip through tight trees

well i wouldn't call the ARV stiff, but it does kill it in the trees. I haven't ridden the pistols, but i've heard they are pretty solid underfoot and turn pretty quick so you might seriously consider those.

I'm 6'3" 185 lbs and have skied all those. Here is my breakdown for you:

Pistols: Sick as fuck everywhere. I had 179s and they had great float in the pow, easy to spin in the park and super quick to turn in tight trees. Not to mention, you can also find the steepest line possible and just straight-line it. This is one of the best skis out there if you want one ski that can do it all. Also consider the Vicious, which is a new, and better, version of the Pistol. The tail is stiffer, so more stability and the progressive sidecut makes it that much more versatile (I have 189 Vicious, but have not had enough time on them to give a valid review).

ARV 185: I don't have as much time on ARVs, but they are a great ski too. Plenty of girth for pow. Also a bit stiffer than the Pistols (at least the 03/04s were). I don't think they turn and hold an edge as nicely as the Pistols, but still a great everyday ski. Also, they are pretty light, so pretty good in the park and in tight spots. I also like the size of the 185.

MSP 187: I skied a pair of 187s for a few days this season and was entirely unimpressed. However, in all fairness to 4frnt, I think they were mounted in a spot that did not suit my needs. They were mounted at freeride, but if I ever owned any, I would go further back than that as it felt way too centered for me (I spend much more time outside the park than in). On steeps I found the MSP throwing me forward, which I taly up to the mount point, but it wasn't enjoyable all the same. On the groom, I disliked the sidecut as well as turn initiation was not nearly as easy and crisp as the two skis above.

Anyway, that's probably enough info. Hit me up if you have other questions.

sory i said 189 pistol but i ment 189 vioius. how stiff is the vioius, is it stiffer and have more camber than the pe.?

The 187 MSP is bomber. Favorite ski of all time. bomber, durable, and a great sidecut. Great for trees. The person is above is right about the mounting point, make sure you know what you want. Freeride is good for me, but some of my friends have mounted it 1-2 cm back.

The ARV is also a great ski. A little sketched at speed but good all-around ski. The bases are super thin. The 185 length makes it a great size to still kill it in the park.

The Pistol skis nice but too soft for my liking. Don't think you could straight line anything with those. Easy to power around though. Real forgiving ski.

I'm pretty sure the Pistols can be used to straight-line and basically just haul ass. Watch Seth kill any big mountain line and then look what he's got underfoot...Pistols!
