$185 for a speeding ticket?

Also, how do you guys all get caught speeding so much? I definitely drive 5-10 over often but who drives 20-30 over unless you're on the freeway? 50+ in like a 30 I don't get

Nahh like I said I was 4 for 4 prior to this in worse situations...it was bound to happen sooner or later ya know

Are you kidding? That's nothing...I live in Maryland, I got 160 for 79 in a 55. That's still not bad.

i got tagged going fifteen over. 60 in a 45 that was a section of a route usually marked 55, missed the sign. paid about 150, so depending on the prosecutor 180 isn't too much of a stretch.

I won't even say what I've been tagged for speeding, it just sounds stupid if I were to highlight my douchebagdriving career.

I'm all done driving like a fuckin' entitled dickhead. Not only is it fucking dangerous, it's really really really expensive. Now I drive like a granny for the most part and I finally have 0 points on my license again in this state, thank God.

do they usually give a leeway for speeding before they ticket in the US. For instance, in Canada you can do up to 10 over the limit and will never get a ticket. On the big highways normally 20 over. (km/h). anything like that in US?

It completely depends. If it's a highway patrol I swear those bastards will write you for two over. If it's a city officer then you might have some leeway.

I've often heard "10, you're fine. 11 you're mine." as a general rule from police officers. Now obviously it is completely at their discretion, but most cops won't fuck with you for 10 mph or less over....unless they're looking for a reason to pull you over.

My dad is a Sergeant in my local towns police force and abides by this general rule.15 if he's lazy.

Got pulled over for my first time driving home for Waterville in September near holderness going 80 in a 65. 15 over like you. My ticket was $150 and I had a court date cuz I'm a minor and it was at midnight. Fucking staties

I live in Mass too and just got my first speeding ticket after almost 9 years of driving...I was going 54 in a 40 and got hit with $140 ticket so I'm not sure why yours is so high

The ticket price isnt somethin to worry about, you should be concerned about the surcharge points charged to your driving record which will make your insurance go up

Apparently in Mass you get a pass on your first non criminal moving traffic violation - so being your first (and mine) we don;t have to worry about our insurance going up

"You get a free pass on the first non-criminal minor traffic violation, which will not be subject to a surcharge. After that, the points start to rack up."

In July I got my first speeding ticket for going 30 km/h (18 mph) over the limit and I had to pay a $150 fine.

On october 30th I get a letter in the mail stating that I had to surrender my license for a month! Ontario driving laws are so strict. This month can't end any sooner.

Cheers to the exact same story. I racked up quite a decent tab when I was younger. Been clean for 5-years now and will be keeping it that way.

Local roads I'll do maybe 5-over tops, mainly because I hate dicks that speed through residential areas. Major routes/highways I'll keep it below 10-over.

Speeding just isn't worth it and hasn't been ever since I wised up. Get pulled over once and you just undid every last minute of time you saved not to mention the loads of dollars you are pissing away on unnecessary bullshit.

Warnings can be logged in the system, and honestly, after 4 warnings without any sign of changed behavior, the punishment will be bumped up.

Play with fire long enough, you are bound to get burned.

Just got pulled over doing 84 in a 65 a couple weeks ago.. 180 dollar fine and 4 points on my license (in PA). I mailed back the citation as not guilty so I can meet in front of a judge with the statey to try and take a driving class or some shit to avoid the points.

I also have to pay an additional $150 to reissue my license. So that's $300 + 1 month suspension for going 30 km/h over. Needless to say, I have learned my lesson...

G2 drivers reading this thread, slow down.

Ontario driver licensing goes this way.

G1 license (Only able to drive with fully licensed G drivers)

- 16 years old

- Pass written test.

G2 license (Able to drive alone but have a stricter demerit point system)

- 1 year of driving with G1 or 8 months if you have completed driving school.

- Pass driving road test

G license (full license)

- 1 year of driving with G2

- Pass another driving road test

Driving trough a red light is inexcusable in almost every case.

Also be happy, that's a 300 dollar fine in Holland.

mine's a retired Lt. and now the Chief of of another town. He has said that's pretty common, but not the final deciding factor. Attitude will get you a long way as well....

sorry for the double post, but that's actually how I managed to not get a ticket yesterday. being a cop's kid certainly does have some benefits. it's gotten me out of A LOT of trouble over the years....

It's gone both ways for me. I got out of having my car searched once because of it. But I've also got a lot of shit for skiing urban because according to the cop in the town over I'm supposed to be "setting an example."

had the exact same suspension happen to me except my original ticket was for having 1 too many people in my car after midnight with only my G2. When I went in to pay it they said I was the first person in durham region to get that ticket because the law for this was made just before. So stupid.

I know it sounds phenomenally stupid, but I got a $111 fine just for not having my headlights on.

This bitch has saved my ass so many times it's unreal.

really, i was told by a lawyer that i could ask for the speed gun and he had to show it to me. i did fight it though and got the points on my ticket reduced but not the fine

It's supposed to be low enough you can actually come up with the money, but high enough to detour you from doing it again-- so judging by this thread, they got the amount just right.

Could be worse, you could be like these guys!

that's pretty funny. But they're complaining about getting a ticket for going 88 in a 65. what do they expect? especially since it's about their 20th ticket, of course the cop is not going to be lenient.

I used to have a statie in the family.

In short, all law enforcement have small penises and hate the world. That is why they became cops.

Speeding aint worth it anyways. Just blaze anoder bowl and cruise on. Its way less stress, plus, no one drives the exact speed limit. This makes a large buffer zone around you, there are the speeders in front, and the trucks and other slower vehicles behind. Plus I swear I get to the mountain damn near the same time as everyone who was going 80 in the 65.

I dunno, give it a try, enjoy the scenery on your way to the hills. =D

Well, don't ever hire that attorney because he is an idiot. While yes, you can request to see the gun, he by NO means is obligated to show it to you. You do not try your case on the side of the road. That's what court is for. You may challenge it then, but you're more so challenging the calibration of the gun. During discovery, the prosecution will most likely supply evidence that the gun has been properly maintained/calibrated anyway and thus remove the grounds for your challenge.

It wasn't a moving violation, it was a camera. It was also almost night and I was in an unfamiliar area. Best part is... it was a school zone too. In my defense the road is a giant fucking straightaway I couldn't resist

Were you inebriated at the time? Cruising at 80 at night in an area you don't know doesn't seem like the standard reaction to the situation...
