180s and how I suck...

I hate that: you go in for a 180 (when your a beginner like me) and you dicide you might not want to do it and at the last milisecond you try it anyway but since you were thinking sbout not doing it you don't spin enough or something and you get an edg cought on the way down and fall and look like an absolute dumbass.

does anyone have a good way of leurning how to spin good and efficiently?

try and put in a grab when you spin...saftey's are good ones to start with...it gets you spoting you landing and out over your skis, so you don't land all wierd. if you spin left, right hand saftey and if you spin right, left hand saftey.

commit. if you don't it will never work. set it in your mind that you can do it. don't convince yourself you can do a misty 9 or something like that, just start simple and commit to it.

for 180s, think about pointing your heels down the hill...just like you would point your toes down the hill if you were goign straight..and then be sure to keep an eye on your landing, and have a good stance. dont land and do a snowplow goign backwards though, thats just stupid, land it and keep your skis going straight and ride it out....good luck man, they're fun to do once you get them down

dont think about the spin. all you have to do is trust yourself and turn your hips. just start with hardly any air, and just gradually increase your air.

for a 180, you dont even really need to try to spin, just sorty of jump and spin a little bit and it will carry you all the way around

I found the most helpful thing is just having confidence. Basically, all I tell myself is If I don't commit then I going to fall no matter what. If I do commit then at least then I have a good chance at landing the trick. So its pretty much an easy choice. You know it not so bad falling as long as you aren't hitting something too big. Just keep building your confidence.

do you guys find it weird that i plant my opposite pole that i rotate around for 180s? like i spin to my left but i plant my right at the top of jump... i dont do it for anything else, just natural 180s.

'i am excellent cool'

in my opinion, the only grab that looks good with a 180 is a safety

Hehe, I don't get much air, but I can sorta do em. I've gotten my 3 since this, so I'm gonna try and do one with a hell of a lot more style. Maybe a mute or something.

i spin to my left and grab my left ski while doing 180, 360, 540, 720, is that wrong or is it just natural for the rest of you people to grab your right ski?

that was one sad looking 180.. and I think japan's and mutes look sweet in big 180's.. just get good at small jumps that take no confidence, then build it up bigger and bigger

def japans, but i dont know about the mutes...

If you can't do 180s, don't try putting a mute in it. Try a lui kang (grab right ski with right hand under boot) and kick out your left leg, or just do a saftey in the middle of it. Don't even wind up for a 180, just go off, turn your head, shoulders, and hip, then spot your landing once you've rotated enough. It's not hard.

REMEMBER: It's 10% equipment, and 90% rider.

this post is helpful for me because i can do 180s but hardeley and i crash alot , im only 13 thogh

its cause 60% of people are on here more then they ski pretty cool huh, oh and i know a 14 year that can do 1080s so being 13 is no excuse

as bad as you want to do me i want to do your mom

about the 300 postes thing, I have been skiing for a damn long time and newschoolin for the past like year, I've just been afraid of rotation up untill about now

fuck ski patrol

I know that one was sad, It's the only one I got on camera right now. I'll go huge sometime soon. Then I'll post it.

hey man just think about how good its gonna feel when you land it. and if you fall just laugh it off. i had the same problem as you with being afraid to rotate. dont think about the jump at all and be sure to turn ur head.

Who the fuck cares if you are good or not. You ski because you like to do it. Some people are good at racing, some powder and some jumps. Give him a break. He loves skiing so props to him.

i think the most helpful advice was to concentrate on pointing your heels downhill

'Who is your daddy, and what does he do?' -Detective John Kimball

yeah dude this is my second year doing park and i can 720 540 360 but not being egoed out just saying

all you do is hit the jump once get the feel

then hit the lip with apropiite speed turn your head looking at the lip of the jump

spot landing and land simple now try it this weekend or whenever

-dont spank tourons thay will yell-

My second year too, I can do 7's and switch 3's. I broke my arm learnign 3's last year and that sucked but now I got it, cause I learned to stay ontop of my skis and not have them land on me. Basicly if you have no clue what your doing just hit the jump really but not too slow and huck really hard around. (a broken arm comes from hitting a .9 footer at 20 mph, no kidding) have fun!

i suck at skiing to but can do some smooth 180`s cuz i don`t worry about falling or hurting myself i just spin it (even though there isn`t much spin to it lol) and land.

homer picture guy just because you suck spins doesnt at all mean you suck at skiing in general, skiing is WAY more than just rotation,

yeh man it is all commitment...usuallt put a helmet on so that takes alot less worry about hitting your noggen...but for me i had the same problem last year...just get the music popping, and just giv 'er dude..

you probably arent very confident skiing switch which makes you scared to commit. spend a day just skiing switch on easy trails until you feel very comfortable doing it. Then it should be no problem to stick a 1. ALso, just start small off of little lips in the trail or in the beginner park. Then take it to the bigger jumps after you improve

on those shitty days when the skiing sucks and theres nothing to do, ski backward all day. As soon as you get off the lift turn around and don't ski forward until the bottom.

yeah big thing is your confidence i never did 180s or 5's because i was not confident in landing switch or riding switch...ride switch down some hills practice just going donw and keeping your legs straight then go for the 1

get more confidence, i a pretty sure that you are afraid to ride switch, at least it sounds to me like that. if youre good at riding switch, theres nothing that could prevent you from throwing a 180, its so easy, concentrate and relax, youll see how easy it is...

i disagree, if it's a slow 180 on a decent size jump, lots of stuff looks good. I know a guy who throws these awesome huge, crossed mutes with a late 180.

A 180 isn't really a spin. Its mnore of a hip turn, just head into the jump, and make a clean pop off the jump. If you spin left, grab safety with your right hand, and twist your hips, your head can stay looking downhill and spotting your landing. Just let go, put the landing gear down, and ride 'er out.

Just takes practice. And, safety's aren't the only grabs that go well with 180s. A blunt grab to late 180 is real nice.

buddy it doesn't matter. everyone starts somewhere. who knows, he could probably charge the mountain faster then you while you spend your day in the park. there will always be people on different levels.
