Is it possible to spin 180 in one direction and then spin 180 back while in the air. My physics teacher says you can't do it but I think that its possible if you have enough air and rotate slow enough

You can't spin 180 and then 180 back, but I guess if you keep your upper body steady you can. Kind of like that old school moguls move (can't remember the name) where you move your legs 90 degrees to one side, then 180 degrees back, then 90 degrees back to center....

 
if you put a small rocket on your hip to spin you back around you could do it....otherwise there is no way....physics is for real

why not? big enough flip, anything's possible. remember morrison's underflip attempt in..... i wanna say ski movie 3? or focused?....... half a backflip, and a 180, reverted to a half frontflip and 180 the other direction. he almost stomped it.

If you were wearing super baggy clothes and caught a big enough wind gust, then yes it would be possible. Consider sky boarding, they spin, stop, and reverse the direction of their spins. You could substitute any factor (wind, rocket, gun...) that would stop bring you angular momentum to an instantaneous zero, and eventually change its' direction. Not at all likely, but possible.

 
to truely do it is imposible, but you could a twister and make it look as if you are doing a 180 and then coming back. MFM in Love/Hate has some shiftys where he goes about 90 degrees w/his body, and then brings it back, its pretty Gangster.

Mike Wilson's zero spins are fucking sick. It looks like he spins 90 degrees, grabs and tweaks the hell outta it, then slowly rotates back. But I could be wrong, it could be just that he tweaks so much

 
yeah i think its possible, its try doing it without skis on the flat, youll make it promise, but youll have to have your body twisted.

In X=ten Niklas Karlstrom does a 360 twist.

It looks like he is doing a 180 then he turns his skis 90 degrees in the opposite direction and then he turns them in the other direction again. But with the chest he s doing the 360 . He turns only the legs doing the twist.

It looks pretty sick

Not sure how it can work on skis but ive tried it and rotated 180 and back in into the pool, but with skis that would be more difficult.

other than just rotating your lower body back and forth you obviously can't change the way your momentum is going, and unless you are completely dense you would have known that

It's possible, If you dont give yourself so much momentum when you leave the jump in the direction, You'll be able to turn yourself back.

it has to be possible sice in THPS2,3,4 and all of them you could do a 3 in one way and a 3in the other direction! but if for real life it can't be done unless your sky diving

You may be able to perform a reasonably passable facsimile of this maneuver, but to truly rotate in one direction, and then stop, and change direction WITHOUT an outside force acting upon you is NOT POSSIBLE.

Your body has nothing to push against to turn...ever notice how when you spin you start your spin at the edge of the lip? Ever wonder why? Try and jump straight and then try to 180 AFTER you completely leave the jump....like at the apex of your trajectory....it IS IMPOSSIBLE!! anything else is just an illusion!

it is impossible that vid is not of what we are talking about...if a 180 to 180 is possible....then you could jump a table go half way across, turn around come back and ski back down the landing

actually jason you would need some friction to allow you to enact some torque, aka change your angular momentum. Air resistance could provide friction, but sadly not enough, and not at a predictable time. That is where the problem lies.

It may be possible to make it look like you do 108 to 180, i guess they call that shifty.

 
I think the closest thing to it is a rewind. That is doing a sifty on way then spinning back 180 the other way. David Benedek does a switch one on Lame. He one some comp over in Europe doing it. Also Trevor Andrews does a super stylie on in Saturation.
