180 - but what comes next?!

as a complete rookie in jumping i´m now landing my 180´s from smaller and medium kickers.

But what should be the next step in order to break my bones in the most stylish way - 360, backflip, or would it be better to first perfectionize the 180 in style or with variations like a fakie run in?

Many say a backflip is easier than a 3.. however, I'd suggest getting your 180's down to a science. Then move to switch 180's.. and after you get the feeling of coming around, the 3 will come natural. Just remember your body follows your eyes/head.

Just start throwing spins off small jumps and get comfortable with them. Then take it to the next step and start spinning off bigger jumps. Do whatever your comfortable with.

get the 180 spinning both ways, fakie, and with some grabs. try and get teh 360 early, b/c if you just keep spinning 180s I find its not as easy to get other tricks, because ur so used to spinning the 1.

If all you're doing is 180s now I wouldn't suggest going for a backie yet. You need to develop your air awareness more, because you'd most likely get disoriented if you went for it now. Start trying some 3s and 1s off of bigger jumps. Just do what's comfortable.

Can you spin 180's the other way? Work on your spins both ways. Oh, and work on your grabs too

learn to ski fakie really well.  Make parrallel turns looking over both downhill shoulders (in their respective directions).  Hit jumps do all 4 180's on everykind of jump, cat track, anything possible.  Then move on the 3's and do the same, then 5's, 7,'s 9's and then you'll be pro.  (doing all 4 9's off anything)

i was in the same situation your in last year. What I did was get 180s down to a science with a few grabs then i started switch 1's and then moved on to 3's once you land a 3 just keep doin them practice makes perfect.

if you wanna be the man when you get better, dont learn 3 till you can do 180s all 4 ways (right, left, switch right, switch left), then learn threes the same way. wish I did that... spin right and left so that you are comfortable with both dont think of one as unnatural. but yea you might wanna try some 3s and stuff before backflips, unless you got soft snow to huck em into in which case go for it, why not.

you should perfect your tricks before you move on. For example, I broke my back because I didn't perfect or at least get really damn good at the 720 before trying a cork 7. If you can do a 1 both ways and then do a switch 1 and then go for the 3 and learn the 3 both ways, then switch 3 you could actually progress really fast. It only takes 1 or 2 days of really working hard on it to perfect a trick once you know how to do it (at least for me).

get 180s dialed in so you can do em off natural drops and jumps then 3 then start doin em switch

Try 3's (obviously), and get grabs into them. then move onto 5's, and get grabs in them, and 7's, and so on. Then try backies, fronts, and misties. Then when you get to wanting to learn complicated flips (flatspins, rodeos) and corked spins, hit up a summercamp, and learn them there.

Just remember, whatever you try, you are gonna fall at some point. It's impossible to learn how to do tricks without falling first. When you are afraid of falling, you will not progress. However, falling is not a bad thing. When you fall, you normally get back up, realize the trick is doable, grab your skis, and you do it again. After repeating what I said in the last sentence, You will sooner or later get the trick, whether it be rails, or your first 540.

Also, when you throw the 3, just remember the importance of popping off the lip: that means that when you come into the jump, have a lot of forward shin pressure on your boots, and when you hit the top of the lip, jumping as far forward/up as you can. This will make you much more in control in the air, and if you are landing backseat on your 3's, it's because you are not popping.

Good Luck, Sack Up, and get good at skiing!

I would say work on steezeing your 180's out then move to switch 180's then 360's. Style is deffintly more important than technicality especially when they are little spins like 180's and 3's.

trying it and falling is always the best thing for me. it wipes out all my fear mostly and then just gets me so pumped to get back up and try it again and work out the kinks

yah i dont think i would agree with how a backflip is easier than a three. In my opinion, a 360 is much easier than a backflip, because you dont go inverted. Just get really comfy with 180, then find a little bigger jump to try a three on. You will find after a while they are not that hard man.

learn switch 3 or 5 landing switch is so much easier and so much nicer on your knees. I dunno i pretty much do 180's 24/7 cause to me its the most fun and most stylie trick u can do. huggge 180's are baller.
