my bro is about 5'4" and 115 lbs. and he needs pow skis. through my research i chose the 179 maden mounted 2-3cm back

the size and mount is not up for debate but i wanna get ur opinions size 180ish
 
he should be find. they are a super soft ski and your mounted them -2 from center i assume?no problem if hes a good skier
 
i dunno dude im 5'11 and i ride 179's and they feel a little big on me. I would look into elizabeths or something like 170ish but thats just my opinion, if hes up for it then go for the 179;s
 
Its all personal preference. How much do you weight also?I'm 5'7" 135lbs and will be skiing on next years Blizzard Titan Nines 181 in a few weeks. And if you dont know its about as burly if not burlier than the Legend Pros for next year. It all depends on aggresiveness, ability, and how you ski. Personally if I was going to buy Madens or any soft pow ski for that matter Id go with 190s.
 
o and I forgot someone thats 115lbs doesnt need a ski that 108 underfoot something in the 90s would give them plenty of float for pow, like some 169 SVs or like a 175 arv
 
Ok. Wow. I wish I had the energy to fully respond to this. This will do:

5'4 = 162.5cms. You're saying he should get a powder ski that is over 6 inches longer than he is. He must be an incredibly good 115lbs skiier to take a ski that large.
 
dude, that ski is too big. I highly recommend a pair of 169 Seth Vicious. They'll be a perfect pow ski for him for at least a couple years.
 
im looking into the same ski(maden) and im about 5,9 140 and i thought it would even kick my ass a little...i would go for the arv's or the viscious
 
if you mount em at tru center then they will feel weightless.

and you're probably asking "why mount pow skis tru center". well the Made'N AK was designed for switch powder, and if you wanna use them for what they're made for then tru center is good cause is makes switch pow easier and the skis feels 10 times lighter.
 
Im 5' 7" and I ride 179's and they feel just fine to me. not too much to handle at all what are people talking about?
 
yeah what's he used to skiing on? if you mount that at -2 from center they should be awesome. i'd even say if he's that light go even closer to core. that way they'll ski like they're a much shorter ski when they're in fact 179cm.
 
obviously i can ski them, but what i am saying is that if you get lazy and backseat, they can take you for a ride
 
seriously he will be fine. At first yes they may feel big but after a few runs you'll get used to it and start to appreciate the length and love them.
 
you'd have to mount them at at least +5 and they would still kick his ass for 2 years. but hey, if he is that set on them, go for it. I'm 5'10, 175 and I ride a 179 1st gen pistol with no problems for floatation, but hey, I 60 pounds and 6 inches isn't a big deal. lol.
 
Holy crap, my girlfriend is 5'2 120 or so and she rides a 179. You guys are pussies if you're 5'11 and a 179 feels "too big"
 
^the Made'Ns are designed for switch powder. Why mount them far back like a gomer? tru center is awsome cause you float switch soo easily.
 
a ski like the made'n has such big shovels so you can mount them at centre and still have no problems floating. makes skiing switch in pow easier.
 
you all act like they were only made for switch powder, and for the record i have always been one to center mount skis, but if you know how to ski powder then you know that you dont want them alllll the way centerd, plus 8-10 is ideal in my opinion, i have mine at plus 10 and i can ski them forwards or backwards in powder, and if i am correct i think that true center on them is +14, but mine dont have the graph on the side, so correct if im wrong
 
so true center relates to the actually center of the ski measuring from tip-to-tail...and then whats core center?
 
^true center: the distance from your toe to the tip is the exact same distance as your heel to your back tip.

core center: when the middle of your foot is at the narrowest part of the sidecut, and the core material (wood or foam)
 
Made'N wasn't designed for switch powder, it's a Big Kahuna with new graphic, that ski was around before anyone really thought about going backwards in powder. It's a traditional powder ski (soft and big). Your bro will be fine on a 179 if he is a strong skier, will help him float in pow and manky crap. Freeride/pow/big mtn skis should be at least as tall as you, preferably taller. People who say weight is the only thing that matters are the 6'1 goofballs on 165cm Fischer RC4's flailing around when it's not boilerplate.
