Right now i have 166 cm skis, and i'm going to get new pipe cleaners that are 176 or 181 cm, i cant decide. I'm 6', 160 lbs. Ski 50% park 50% everything else. I'm going to mount them with FKS's, where should i mount them? center? 1 cm back? 2 cm back?

181 is perfect for you, its fine if you mount center, but i know -2 will definately kill everything no matter what ur riding

181 don't think twice. I'm your height and my park skis are 185. Yes its personal preference to a certain degree but go for the 181s you won't regret it and your skiing will improve.

you should get the 181s and mount 2 cms back. I'm 6'. 170 lbs and half way through last year I went from a 164 to 179, transition was easy, and the longer skis are soo much better for all applicatioss except maybe rails. I also have a pair of 181s that I need to get mounted.

just that at 6 feet it shouldnt be a question. i dont know why you would use anything other than a 181

I wouldn't mount center unless you get symmetrical skis, because 2 cm back will give you more use of the sidecut of your skis for skiing groomers bumps and trees, where it will give you some added agility while turning. If you do any powder, it will be a little easier to keep your tips up with your bindings mounted a bit back.

your an idiot, dont give advice until you are a little more knowledgeable.

center mounted skis only suffer in performance really in powder, but these skis wont be seeing too much powder im guessing, and even if they were mounted back they are pretty narrow so they wont be great in powder anyways.

i actually like a center mounted ski all mountain a lot. skis that are mounted center give you more tail for when you get sent back seat and makes it easier to recover, being center mounted makes it much easier to throw your ski around making it easier to do quick turns on steeper runs and this especially helps in chutes

no your the idiot. unless its a symmetrical ski, you lose the advantage of the sidecut to a degree. the sidecut is designed to perform best at the recommended mounting point. this doesnt mean the ski wont work, but it wont ski as well as it would mounted back farther

he said center mounted skis dont ride good all mountain, i said they do because of the reasons i gave. i know that it works against the side cut but im saying they still ski fine all mountain. and with most twintip skis the recommended mounting point is further forward than a traditional ski so it isnt even that far away from where it was designed to be mounted.

but i was responding to the fact that he said center mount skis are bad for all mountain, i said they are fine. i dont think youre in idiot but i believe you did take what i said out of context. i would appreciate an apology

he said center mounted skis dont ride well all mountain. you called him an idiot, when in fact that is true. while they will ride ok all mountain. they wont be ideal by a long shot. so you get an apology for calling you an idiot, but hes still right, and your still wrong.

they still ride perfectly fine all mountain, unless of course you cant ski then either wont ride well. a center mount ski does provide some benefits for skiing all mountain and you cant say it doesnt. with the skis we are riding mounting at center isnt that far off from the recommended mounting point. i dont know about you, but i and many other people i know like the way a center mounted ski handles all mountain riding.

then clearly you dont know what a ski is supposed to feel like. it wont carve nearly as well, because your foot isnt in the sweet spot in the sidecut. thats great that you like it that way, but that doesnt mean that its performing to its full potential.

dude, that was never the question.

he said that center mount skis dont ride good all mountain

i said they ride perfectly fine, and they even help with some things all mountain. it was never about where the ski skis the best, i was saying that center mounted skis ride fine all mountain

and im telling you. no. they dont ride "fine" they are ridable, but not nearly as good as they could be. and how do they improve anything all mountain? by going against the sidecut? no

they ride perfectly fine, unless you cant ski. they make it so much easier to get turns around in steep chutes

no they ride perfectly fine WHEN you cant ski. sure you can slide them sideways down chutes. you can also do that with 205 straight skis. but when it comes to things like carving, you notice the difference.

dude, i never said anything about carving being better did i?

i realize a center mounted ski does not help with carving, but the way they perform in chutes when you are doing a lot of hop turns it makes things easier.

lets just agree to disagree, this is just getting old

wrong.

Try carving a non-symmetrical ski mounted at recommended and then at centre on hard snow. You will notice a difference. The PCs are no exception to that. Think of the sidecut.

when did he talk about chutes? half the time will be spent doing 'everything else' sure we don't know where he skis, but given that they are PC's i'm not thinking the other half will be spent in pow and chutes.

not only does it not work well with the side cut, but a ski is designed to flex around one central point, depending on the ski's construction and stiffness mounting center may be too far forward and could feasably create a dead spot in the ski, def mount 2 back.
