1620- possible?

I went to the USO big air wondering what I might see. The jumps these days are getting so massive I wonder when people will find a stopping point and say "that tricks just too big". TJ schiller threw a switch 14 as easy as I make toast. Is the 16 as realistic as it seems? when will they stop?

its most definatly possible, but i think on a jump that size, a 1440 is the biggest spin that you can make look decent.

style points are definitely something to consider. a shitty 18 doesn't impress but i hadn't heard one had been done.

well people have their own style...making them unique. i definately agree, but theres no criteria to really judge on style. apart from, stomping and no flailing and wutnot. like if that was finally a consideration in comps from here on in, rail jams on the EC would be filled with heeds

i think t.j is deciding not to do more than one sw 14 a year, cause hes tryin not to push the sport into a spinning frenzy

well has anyone done an 18 on real skis? not just the little anorexic skis those "freestyle skiers" use?

but still... props for an 18 thats pretty sick

possible - yes.

and someone will prob make it look good too, but that will be the exception rather than the rule.

for what it's worth...

i've been on here a long time, and i remember discussing the same "spin to win" issues with anything over a regular 9. people said the same types of things, "nothing over a 9 or 10 will ever look good" and whatnot.

it's just going to continue on, maybe it'll branch in the direction of double inverts (which also fell into the same category of huck to win hatred) which jon and jacob are making look good for the first time.

personally i don't hate on the spins to wins, but i'm definatly most interested in spins that stay off axis for more of the rotation (and still have top tier style). no one seems to be doing that much.

thats not the point dude. i highly doubt you could do one either so don't hate. the point is that if jumps just keep getting bigger and bigger, riders will just keep adding spins and there is a point where you wonder when its just too much.

why cant people just put style into spins instead of hucking everything. i mean i think a floated style 5 or seven looks so much better than a hucked 1440

okay so i saw the old 1800 clip and it looked pretty stupid, supporting the idea that big spins are gay. i heard sammy carlson was going to unleash a switch corked truckdriver 14 if he needed it to win USO but who knows how that would have gone down.

I think big air comps just kind of suck because their just isn't enough variety and it takes something like a 12 or a 14 to win these days.

yes 1620 is definatly possible and will probably be done by many people in a few years. It'll probably look really good to. Big air competitions are a spectators sport, everyone there can see the whole run (or in this case jump) so that's why they're around. for the fans. Slopestyle is way better, it showcases way more skill, not just being able to throw down one crazy trick

Yep its the truth...every couple of years we notch up the allowable spin and say o no nothin over 10...ok def nothin over 12 well that 14 looked pretty clean but def no 16!! Its just the story of progression you can never say ooo thats too much if a 16 looks as smooth and clean as a 7 on a large jump then so be it!!!

i dont think there really is a limit to spinning, if something can be done with style and flow then why not right? like it was said earlier, people were saying that a 9 and 10 were the max out of spinning with style, then tj threw down a 14 with style, and in my opinion wasnt hucked at all, now the bar is set at a 14. " the mark is at 14, anything over that is just hucked" is what is said now. its just a matter of time until tj or someone else throws down a 16 with style, its just progression of sport, and it will always be that way.

Here's a video of an 1800, but maybe it doesn't count because it happens during a triple back flip.

Of course in freeride lingo (adding 360 every time one goes inverted) maybe it would be called a 2880.

No, it's not grabbed, not even close, but if guys can do this, then I would have to say that yes, 1620 is possible.

I'm not a huge fan of aerials, but it's still pretty impressive that someone can do that and land clean,

its kids like you who get to me.

Say at x games someone throws down a 1620. There will be 20 threads about it, and you will agree that it was fucking dope.

Im going to guess last yeah a 1440 was pretty stupid as well. hmm? Well, once that got thrown down: "oh maybe its actually sick, everyone else is saying it is!"

make up your mind and dont jump on bandwagons.

that 1800 was not switch, and didnt clarke throw a 1620last year?

i think the 1440 was super sick and a 1620 would be crazy, screw all you that say spin 2 win is gay just becauase the biggest spin you can do is a 360
