15 states file petitions to secede from the Union

Now that I have an issue with. People say Republicans are small government but that's not true. Maybe it is in terms of like business but in terms of society it is not. I mean forced ultrasounds, telling people they can't get married, and people like Santorum saying they want to put cameras in your bedroom to make sure you're not gay. To me that is bigger government than anything Obama would do (or bush did) regarding the economy.

and just because this is funny

Democrats in the 1860s were the conservative party, it wasn't until the 1960s that the dems because the liberal party and the GOP became the party of the butthurt racists.

So in essence, nothing's changed but the labels.

I agree with you completely, when I refer to bigger government I mean basically the welfare state and social assistance. Things like that. I don't think ANY government has the right to tell people who and who can't get married. Santorum's a fucking brain dead moron.

Rand Paul/Gary Johnson 2016!

That was a bill to limit governmental power. He believes marriage is between a man and a woman, but he also doesn't care if gay people get married. If We The People was passed it would remove same sex marriage from federal jurisdiction...meaning the government would have less power over it.

That's a pretty reasonable stance. Also there's very little difference between an anti-federalist and a libertarian. Making that distinction doesn't really change anything.

i hope they secede we dont want there right wing hick asses anyways. nobody gives a fuck about there warped values they can gtfo. sorry for all the hate but they really just need to get over it. they live in the middle of fucking nowhere its not like the law even applies there anyways.

The more you bombard somebody with facts, the more it hardens their views. Not all the time but it seems to be a trend with ignorant people.

You also can't really explain to an ignorant person that they're ignorant.

It's sort of like dealing with 12 year olds that think they're the shit. No amount of anything can convince them that they're incredibly lame and being acting like an annoying kid. in there eyes they're a bad ass.

Haha. New York is the bluest fucking state in the country. I don't see how anyone thought there was a chance of that happening.

We must contest every single inch of ground and delay the baby-murdering, tax-raising socialists at every opportunity. But in due time, the maggots will have eaten every morsel of flesh off of the rotting corpse of the Republic, and therein lies our opportunity... Why should Vermont and Texas live under the same government? Let each go her own way in peace, sign a free trade agreement among the states and we can avoid this gut-wrenching spectacle every four years.

So fucking awesome. Hahaha

new york doesnt have a petition... but north dakota has one saying if new york does end up succeeding they will too

You're so full of shit your eyes are brown man.

That bill didn't limit the powers of government, it prevented people from petitioning federal courts when state's were infringing on their rights, therefore giving MORE power to state governments.

No difference between an anti federalist and a libertarian? Are you fucking high? An anti federalist just wants the federal government to have less power so that the states can have more, a libertarian wants PEOPLE to have rights. A true libertarian would legalize marijuana at the federal level and not allow states to ban it, Ron Paul wants to let states have their own wars on drugs.

Gary Johnson is much more of a libertarian.

Lol. Lets just stop and think for a second. Even if a state was able to succeed this easily, how (lets just say texas) would Texas' economy do when the rest of the U.S. puts a trade embargo on them as well as cutting off any resources that are shipped from other parts of the U.S. to them? People really are getting more idiotic every year.

No shit. I was thinking the lack of federal funding alone would bury half those shithole states, hilarious.

Texas wants out because the gov't spends too much on domestic and foreign issues

Who was that guy, before Obama, who ran the US...where was he from again???

.

hilarious. basically those 25k signatures are for acknowledgement of the petition.

IF it gets enough signatures, this is what is going to happen

"hey, this one got 25k signatures"

"yep, it exists"

"sounds ridiculous, i dont want to look at it anymore"

- and they didnt, the end

whether they like it or not, Obama got voted in and they have to deal with it. By wanting to leave the states, they are essentially saying that they are against democracy.

I was thinking along the lines of

"Hey 25,000 people- you don't like America? There's the fucking border asswipes, enjoy Juarez. No you may not take a state with you. Please fuck off now."

hahahaha yeah, thats pretty good too.

i was trying for something to this effect:

kinpqp4wv.jpg

but replace wood with petition

Although it may seem stupid because it was motivated by Obama's reelection just remember that Texas used to be a republic and when you consider the fact that they are being held back and hurt in some ways by being a part of the US along with the fact that they are able to maintain a balanced budget makes it seem much less ridiculous. That being said many of the states on that list are better off staying a part of the Union and for those states nothing will ever come of this as the ones signing the petition are likely some of the few "South will rise again people"

Remember how this is still happening?

The Bloc is still in power in Quebec...dur.

The most recent referendum did not pass but a large amount of Quebecers still want to separate .

Well for Texas it could bring to light their citizens beliefs. Will the US government care? no

but it could get the state government thinking and if you have ever spent much time in Texas you'll know that many, many people are all for Texas and already talk about it as if it is a separate country. That can be seen by the number of signatures that they have now. I don't think anything immediate will happen but I do think that if Obama makes drastic changes that go against more conservative views, or simply if the economy declines or shows no improvement for the next 8 years or so then I wouldn't put it past them

shit i forgot to put after that that when Texas joined the union they had it written in that they could secede anytime with or without the unions petition

It won't happen. These are just groups of crazy people. The have very little resource how the fuck would they be able to last. Plus I am guessing that a large majority of Texas still wants to be part of the US.

and the number is shrinking daily. needless to say, the only reason the Bloc got in was because the Liberals fucked up pretty bad. The certainly are NOT in power because of a separatist agenda. Also they hold a minority, with the 2 parties making the majority (ADQ and Liberal) being federalists. So yea. It's not happening still and is not going to happen any time in the future. Especially with Quebec become more and more assimilated to the rest of Canadian culture, becoming more and more reliant on the rest of Canada, and becoming more and more an immigrant based population.

Giving more power to state governments, who historically have been more in tune and listened to their constituents better. Less federal power=less power overall.

Anti-federalist and libertarians in the end are pretty similar. A libertarian wouldn't legalize marijuana on the federal level, there just simply wouldn't be a law prohibiting it if a libertarian was in power. Taking power away from the states, in turn takes away power from the people as they have a much closer connection with their state legislature than their national. Comparing Gary Johnson and Ron Paul in a 'who is more libertarian' debate is brain dead. They're both logically minded and very positive people.

Letter from Blue States to Red States

Dear Red States:

We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We belie

ve this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq , and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines, 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

Finally, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

Peace out,

Blue States
