14 din binding

i'm trying to decide if a 14 din binding is what i need, i think the din chart says i need around 11 din:

i weigh 205 am 6'0" and am going to be mounting whatever i get on 190 4frnt vct's

i have a size 12.5 foot although i am not sure of my exact boot size at the moment

i will use this setup as more of a fast straightlining, bombing, cliff dropping, big mountain ski etc. and i ski faster in all conditions than most people i know if that helps with my ability level.

So, do you oh wise ns members know if i will be alright with a 14 din binding or do i need to go higher din? right now i am looking at some rossi axial2's that go up to 14 ($200 on evogear) what do you think of this?

sth 14 would work.

how big do you actually go?

I have sth16's just cause I got them cheap last year, and my din is at 10. If the construction is all metal then go for it, thats the only reason mortal people need higher din bindings anyways.

well that is actually not your din even if you are a type III+ skier and you are well within the range of that binding.

id have to recomend the 4frnt 412 4-12 din, rosck solid bindings and as it so happens i have a pair for sale! let me know if your interested, ill sell for relativley cheap

Choose between those, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Ideally, your din setting should be close to the middle of your bindings range. If your din is 11, then the rossi 140 will probably work well for you. If your din is close to the top or bottom of the range, then you should probably consider an alternative binding.

If you are truly as rad as you are CLAIMING. Then no 14 is probably not enough. I run my big mountain skis at 14 toe 14.5 heel. I weigh less than you. Have a bigger foot than you. And based on what you posted, am not as good of a skier as you. My bindings always come off when they need to, and only have once when I didn't want them too.

Set em where ever you're comfortable but if I were you i'd make sure my max din was up around 18-20 ish not 14 cause you'll probably realize pretty quickly that they are not enough for you.

Complete myth. If they're at the very top the DIN might not be 100% accurate but it's not a big deal at all. If your DIN is under 12, 12 DIN is just as good.

Yes, that is why I said "ideally". But the fact is that a spring's strength and rate changes the more that it is compressed. Also, if you keep the spring in your bindings fully compressed all year long it will reduce the life span of the spring. This is why it is reccomended to back off your bindings during the summer if you are not using your skis.

Also, another thing to remember is that not all bindings are created equal. Bindings like the Look and Rossi have much more elasticity than ones such as tyrolia, and therefore it is possible to ski them with lower din settings and not prerelease as easily.

thanks for the replies everyone, i ended up getting a 8-18 rossi turntable race binding, hopefully it'll work out ok this season
