A 13 yr. old boy died at my local resort yesterday as a result of a major avalanche sweeping him off the chair and burying him under 10ft. of debris. It took over 15 mins for patrol to respond leaving him without any chance of survival. I'm shocked and extremely sorry for his family and everyone involved. I just can't believe they would even have the lifts open in those kind of conditions.

how low is this lift. i realize avys can get big but our lifts are way off the ground

he could have been in a very low dip in the chair lift, where he was only like 5 feet off the ground or something. Also, a lot of west cost resorts still don't have bars on all the chairs.

What resort was this at???? I can't believe ski patrol was that irresponsible...i guess thats what happens when the east coast actually gets snow, they don't know what the fuck to do.

This happened at the Las Vegas ski and snowboard resort. I live in Vegas and it is all over the news. Crazy though because that resort usually NEVER gets snow. With all these storms the resort got a lot more snow than they are used to, and I heard they even blasted before oppening(only heard this). The lifts are very old, and do not have safety bars. I also heard that with all the new snow the lifts were very close to the ground(lifts were never to high off the ground either).

This shit aint east coast. When's the last time any of you EVER heard about an avi out east? They don't have the snow or terrain to produce any that would amount to shit.

A total of nine people were caught in it. Eight were found quickly. The 13 year old took 7 hours for dogs to find him. They had two more avalanches this morning. Damaging two of the lift poles and the upper lift house.
