do you think session 1242 will do for skiing what afterbang did for snowboarding??

afterbang is probably the best board moive i have even seen, i havent seen the new robot food movie but it should be good, but it was the best board movie ever, and it just shows pure boarding and it makes me pumped to ski!!!

no other ski movies this year even compared with session 1242. i think i will pop session 1242 into the dvd over afterbang, but i guess thats because i'm a skier

sometimes when im running water to wash dishes or something, i think about how lucky i am to have such simple access to running water and how some people will never know such a simple pleasure.

seriously, Jibtech is right. They are two differnet sports. Let skiing do its thing, it doesn't have to follow snowboarding.

Bottom line is 1242 is a PBP SKIING FLICK and you will like it. End of story. Its nobodys nothing but what it is to itself and skiing.

 
i haven't even seen 1242 yet, but why the hell not compare it to afterbang? that movie is fucking sick as hell. so is videogangs, although it's pretty damn short.

i will say though, if a company like pbp or L1P had the budghet that MSP did, the back country shots might start to rival those in snowboard movies.

either way, definitely compare skiing movies to boarding movies. one thing I've noticed is that riding movies are starting to move away from taking themselves seriously (i.e. hardocre rap and shit), to being more fun (80s songs that are fun to listen too). also, after it was pointed out to me, afterbang definitely has a lot more cuts than most ski movies, yet it still flows real well. personally, I think it's because all the songs are close to the same tempo.

anyway, watch boarding movies, they're sweet. and don't be afraid to hold skiing movies to the same standard.

afterbang was a sick as fuck movie i don't think that it greatly advaced the sport of snowboarding mabye in the types of vids people start producing but thats it, as for 1242 i havesn't seen it yet (yay for beeing a poor college student) but if its as good as everyone says it is i guess it might do the same thing for snowboarding as it did for skiing but you know what.... WHO FUCKING CARES!! personaly if this sport never grows to shit like the olimpics i will be happy.

and i hate to say this but... dave your are right stop trying to compaire us and snowboarding they are compleatly different and both industries are going compleatly different ways, maybe everyonce in a while we will pick up some part of their style or visa versa but thats really it.

Andy brought up a point a few months ago about how he thinks that the next step in both our sports in to inergrate films and riding, basicly shit movies would be both border and skier and we would all just be one big happy family. now that would be a movie that infulance the sport(s)

yes yes yes i agree although afterbang was a sick movie and the same with lame..it didnt really change snowboarding. it was just a dope movie thats all same with the oakley movie

Who cares if you watch snowboard movies or ski movies. Personally I watch just as many snowboarding as skiing. Just watch what gets you amped and what makes you love riding even more and want to progress more.

1242 is a completely different style that anything Robotfood has done. You really can compare the 2 because the styles are way different. Just buy 1242 cause it is really good.

another, shakedown is pretty sick, but its just a typical mack dawg flick with no originality. Afterbang and Lame both beat it.

and, its not like poorboyz is running on a tight budget. Im sure soloman and oakley give them lots of support. They are definately in no shortage of a budget and Im sure there budget is comparable with msp's.

I do agree with what has been said, movies can't change a sport. It really can't give any new ideas also, because if you see it on a movie...then it's not a new idea. But Propaganda, and the orginal Ski Movie are just frickin' sweet...I love those movies. Kinda makes ya wonder where skiing will be in five years....I mean will Superpipe comps consist of two tricks because the riders are boosting so high? People might say in five years...Session 1242 made me want to ski...that's what I say about Ski Movie

i dont feel like reading all the posts but yes 1242 does look like a sick film, BUT do not forget about FORWARD that was the best ski or snowboard film i have ever seen to date so whoever said session 1242 has no contenders think again

I think that Afterbang was revolutionary as far as snowboard flicks go. (and I use the word revolutionary lightly.) It just generated close to 50 posts on a newschool ski website. Plus, look how many similar 'bro' videos have been spawned from it. There has been 5000 threads on afterbang/lame....on this ski website. Give me a break, and admit, it has changed things....

I don't see why there should not be a comparison between snow movies. That is what they are.

And Afterbang is entirely different than 1242. PBP goes down the line of Mack Dawg, with straight ahead action. Very different from the lifestyle focus of Afterbang/Lame, even though they mix in nasty shred segs.

The question is when a ski filmaker will go back towards something like what Stump and the Robots have done. I haven't seen it yet — although the Guatemalan Persuader is pretty fucking entertaining.
