thats how much money i'm set to recieve as the initial portion of my inheritance from my grandfather...however, its actually a check of 7,000 british pounds (he was english) if calculated at current exchange rates. so my question is this, should i consider waiting on cashing my check in the hopes that exchange rates might prove more favorable for the british pound? does anyone know whether this is likely to happen?

take the money now and put it in a certificate of deposit (CD) at any bank for anywhere from 6 months to a few years and it is guaranteed to earn a few percentage points. This is guaranteed- the exchange rates are not.

run the numbers a few times and pick a good CD. I have made a couple hundred bucks just letting it sit in a bank like that before

Where are you from? The American dollar is gaining strength, in which case you might want to cash out as soon as possible. The Canadian dollar is still strong but might give back a little since it is a little overinflated, in which case you might want to hang on to it until you need the money.

I learned a good saying..... A CD is the safest way to loose money. This meaning, the rate of inflation is more often Higher then the interest rate being paid on CD's

 
CDs=the slowest way to make money. I've had 6k in a CD for 2 years and i made like 50 dollars. The current interest rates are way low but they are going up. I would invest in a strong company instead. or just give some and i'll but some lotto tickets. shit.

$90 a year on a 2500$ investment? You can make almost that much on an ing direct savings account, and the money is completely liquid. Of course, if youre in canada, who knows if you can or not.
