'12-13 Atomic Theory or '11-12 Volkl Bridge?

Im starting to drift away from the park and am looking for a solid mountain ski, that I won't take into the park. I love my Chronics but Id like something I can take to UT or CA for vacations this year, that can handle a little better than the chronics. I'm 5'8 130lbs and am looking for it to be around 172cm.

I went to the local ski store and told them what I was looking for, and they recommended the Theorys and Bridges, but I wanted other opinions b4 picking a pair up.

The Theorys are $500 and the '11-12 Bridges are on sale for $360. Keep in mind I live in NY, but do go to VT as well.

Thanks

I would actually look at something with a slightly larger footprint. Something in the 105-110 range.

Obviously, it's all personal preference, but i had "all-mountain" skis that were 115 underfoot (reg camber), and they slayed groomers and trees.

I suggest the SFB, Iclantic Nomad, Rossi Sickle.

That being said, i know a couple people who have the new bridges with the rocker as their pow skis, and rave about em.

I second this. They're making a rocker version this year instead of the softer one, but I've had quite a few days on the softer 168s and like one day on the normal flex ones. I liked the softer ones better, I'm 5'5" and like 120lbs. Carved well, flex was awesome, fun going switch, decently poppy for bouncing around the hill. I'd totally buy them for east coast if you liked fatter skis.

The Theories will slay hardpack super well. I'm sure any of the shops that carry that ski in your area (as well as in VT) will say the same.

SFB's are pretty much a fun all mountain any condition ski. If you are looking for a ski that still has a park sensibility but is more all mountain I would vote for that. Also the Blends are great. Bridges are not going to be so great on a real deal powder day out in UT.

Im mainly looking for something that would be great on the mountain, I dont need to take it in the park as well. Im liking the blends, but I can get the Theorys (last yrs model) for around $350 new?

Blends > Theory? for mountain and not park?

It all depends on how you want to ski. I like to jib around, butter off shit, just kinda play around in an all mountain setting which is what bacons and blends are designed to do. The theory while fine is just that fine. It's not the most fun ski in the Atomic line up and not that great when you get into the deeper stuff. If you really want to carve and carve allot go for em.

the bridges would be awesome for you. i've skied them and my friend owns a pair in ontario and they are floaty through soft shit and crud but also crush hardpack
