1080's on rails?

I just bought some 04/05 1080's mounted at core centre and 04/05 teneighty pro boots.

Thinking I might want to start hitting some rails this season.

Is 80 in the waist enough to get decent at jibbing? And will the skis hold up?

Starting to wish I had bought some PE's...

I dont want to start a ski discussion though....just wondering what the ideal waist width is for jibbing.

I agree with nomensteven, they are excellent all around, but don't push them too hard in the park and rails, they are an excellent beginner park ski

In my experience I'd say the ski that hold up best on rails are the PEs, and the worst would be TMs. The my scratch FSs are pretty damn good on rails too. No cracks yet just grind down a bit.

People have mixed responses with Armada on rails. Some say they totally suck (not as bad as the TMs though) while others say they're durable.

But like the other dude said, it comes down to skill most of the time. You can prolong the life if you slide right.

I don't think so, unless maybe it distributes the weight more evenly on the base/edge. Maybe it could have an effect, maybe not. It's more likely that if you learn to slide rails right then you will have a longer ski life.

I skied my 1080s for an entire East Coast ski season, hitting the terrain park a ton every weekend. By the end all i had was 2 cracked edges. They held up extremely well, i was impressed.

The problem, which you will hear a lot, is that they become softer as time goes on. This is true, but the process is accelerated if you are doing butters, and landing in the backseat or in other awkward ways. Even though the ski becomes softer it does not become dead. The ski still had lots of life left by the end of the season.

1080s impressed me the most in carving ability. I went straight from racing to freeskiing, and the tight turning radius and flexibility of the ski allowed me to kill the groomed trails.

That really puts my mind at ease, thanks for the awesome first hand review....I'm so stoked to get out there this season.

Still wondering if width at waist has a large effect on rail balance?

a wider waist would make it slightly easier, but you should be fine with 80mm. I did a couple rails with my old elans that are around 65mm and I couldn't tell much difference from my 86mm mike nicks.

what they did give you knew ones or are you saying you want new ones?

can you get new ones of 1 year warranty if the edges crack?

when I broke my 03-04 I have the 1 year warranty, I return my skis to my little shop and they ship the skis at salomon ... 1 month later I receive the 04-05

i hit some rails with mine last year and they were fine, after 1 season of abuse they are still holding up and will be used again this year

i have 1080's with s912 bindings and their soo sick

good warrenty too

and well since i like to do some glades and do some sick forest runs my 1080s are good all around skis...im from the east and on the ice its not as good but still holds up and when i went tou west to whistler on vacation they were dope in powder

dont feel so abd for not buying pE'S

their still pretty good bud
