1080 foil review

i have just demoed a pair of 1080 foil and was quite impressed. i do not know if it has a foam core or what not(wouldn't be surprised if it does have a foam core), i will just review on the ride of the sticks.

they are very similar to the pocket rocket in dimension wise but i find them eaiser to carve. they are quite light and have a, i say a medium flex. i can carve gs turns without much effort, and it holds itself pretty well on ice. i live in the east so i cannot test their performance on pow.

the ski are quite easy to spin on, good balance and i think the light weight make a good contribution to that as appose to my dynastar candide(which still rocks). i did not test them out on rail since they are demo skis, but judging from the wide platform it should be very stable.

in conclusion, if i have the money i will buy a pair cause they are quite fun to ride on and i might go out west next year. i have a pair of dynastar candide and for sure it will not be any good to me in pow. it's hard to say if i like the foil more than the candide or vise versa since they are completely different ski(freestyle mogule vs. freestyle backcountry/all mountain).

I would like to know whether you rode last year's 1080, and if so, do you like the new Foil better?

sounds very similar to my review of demoed 1080s last year. good all around ski. but there are better park specific and all mountain specific skis out there.

if you come west your candides won't cut it if you get into some deep stuff. they still rock on anything and everything but deep. I'm still on concepts, and for the most part love them untill I get into anytihng deeper than a foot.

no i did not tried last/this year's 1080, but i did tried the old jf cusson's pro 1080 and it's hard to judge that one compare to the foil. the foil is so much bigger than the 1080.

i also have the head air, the one mosley had before the mad trix came out and it's crap compare to the candide. the atomic tweat(the blue one with red griffity) was too soft for my liking, i kept on washing out in the pipe.

i was gonna get the concept but then i saw the candide for the same price so i went for that instead. i know i am gonna sink with the candide out west cause i got the 165 version cause i think the 180 would be too big to learn stuff.

and the difference with the candide to the concept is the top sheet(way better, such a good conversation starter), and it's stiffer than the concept...or at least that's what i was told by the shop keeps. it's basically a souped up version of the concept so i was told.

I'm pretty sure if you do buy the foils, your going to like them more than you candides just because they are new and because they are fatter, your going to feel so much more stable on them, so in turn your going to like them more.

i am not too sure what length they were...i am thinking 175 or some where around there. they only have one pair of foil there since it is the rep.'s personal ski. since i am a patroller i was able to convince her to let me try those ski out. i thnk you are right that i will like the foil more than the candide cause they are new and uber fat. i don't think i will just completely trash the candide cause there is no way i can do mogule with the foil...we only have that in the east, no fluffy pow just rock hard bumps.

i skied the 1080 foil and the 1080 gun on thursday. the gun is pretty much the same as the pocket rocket except it has a little more flex. the foil was one of the greatest twins ive skied. it was super soft but didnt ski like it was. it wasnt very chattery on edge but still gave amazing pop. the only thing id change is the graffic

skiing+shrooms=bad idea

ok, so for next year I have heard of:

1080 Gun ??mm waist

1080 Foil 83mm waist

Are there any more versions of the 1080 coming out? I assume the PR is still going to be made next year.

 
Skier150: there will also be the 1080 thruster, which will be the pricepoint version. I won't be skiing any Salos as long as they have foam cores, but the Gun looks promising (sidewall constr.)

ALL foam cores, so much for long-lasting camber. Ask the company if you think I'm wrong.
