1000 skis backlash and judgement

I’ve been seeing a lot of negativity towards this company and all the riders who are switching too them. Who cares. When you’re a pro skier of their caliber you get to choose who you ride for. For those of you who are getting upset about the price and durability and blah blah blah regarding 1000, then go pro and don’t ski for them! Easy right? ?

Can you name more than 2 real instances you've seen "negativity towards this company"? lol.. "Their skis only come in 179" doesn't count.

I think some people were saying that they're too expensive

“Too expensive”

”gonna fail”

”ugly”

“Cap construction”

”just hype”

”shit skis”

They're a new ski brand so they're a lot of unknowns. It's rare a start up company has everything figured out, so just give em a chance. I'm sure they have very little capital to work with to invest in making different ski shapes, graphics, lengths etc.

why u care if people shit on 1000 all the reasons are slightly valid

Don’t knock it til ya try it dude. Nobody has really gotten to put them up to a real test. Skepticism is rational but what I’ve been seeing around here and on IG has been pretty far past skepticism.

just wanted to voice my opinion ya know same as everyone else

congrats, you are the first 1000 skis dick rider.

Normalize judgement, especially if it’s valid. Which in this case, it’s mostly is. They are big bois, they can take it and hopefully improve their product to what their customer base wants.

Facts such as “probably less durable” ?

I think op is really just saying that at this point we don’t know much at all and it’s worth it to keep an open mind while we wait and see. No one is forcing us to buy these ever. Doesn’t make much sense to be actively detracting from their reputation with no personal experience.

in general there is misinformation as well. Shit talking them for “cap construction” that is actually side wall construction with semi cap for the topsheet. Or for skis being short at 178 without mention of how that measured 178 compares to most brands 181

Sincerely 1000 skis second official fan boy

Originally their website did only say 'cap construction' which was misleading because they meant semi-cap. It has since been fixed. And I cannot speak of the durability firsthand of course but ON3P and Moment have both openly criticized fully wrapped edges in the past.

I said something judgy about them in another thread, but I mean if you can’t come on here and talk shit what are we even doing here I was joking anyway.

I think people are a little taken aback that people would leave ON3P for like a less established Indy ski brand. The skis don’t appear to be anything new, the graphics are boring, obviously the build quality isn’t going to match ON3P, and their not paying big bucks to their riders it’s just kind of whatever IMO

Then don’t buy them dude. Im not even on board with 1000. Im a skiing enthusiast who is alarmed by the amount of closed mindedness surrounding this topic.

“facts” are not conclusions drawn off of a website description. I have never held a pair in my hands and I have never skied them. Neither have you. I am skeptical of 1000 as well, but it is irrational to be so upset about a product that one has no experience with and one has no reference of experience to draw from

Hope that helps clear my position up. If you’re upset your favorite skiers are leaving your favorite brand, then it is okay to feel that way but to unleash that anger on a young company who is trying to build a consumer base is illogical and unfair

Honestly no one seems more upset than you

It’s the annual Playa hata’s ball.

They’re made in Åre skidfabrik who makes SGN skis (Benjamin Forthun rides them), RMU, and Extrem skis. They also used to make CMD skis (the company Elias Syrjä rode). These are all extremely high quality handmade skis in Sweden.

Funny how people didn’t have these thoughts about Season Equipment when they run a very similar platform. I think part of it is because NS has an extreme ON3P hive mind. ON3P is sick, don’t get me wrong, but like - come on guys. Chill. I’m all for new Indy companies. ON3P started as an Indy company too (and still is).

Yeah agreed. I love ON3P more than most, but I don't feel hurt by this. I feel like this is just the natural progression of the ski industry. Things like this happen in every industry, all the time. It opens up new opportunities for both the athletes who left ON3P and ON3P themselves. The fact that they all parted ways with great respect and comradery is just solid evidence of this.

ok here is my 1000 skis rant:

I'm very into the vision of this company. It's really sick to see them prioritize being sustainable, and it makes sense for the bunch to have their own ski company. I will watch the shit out of any content that 1000 puts out, and I hope they put out a lot of it.

But there are also a few things that really confuse me about 1000. First of all, the only red skis thing. It's literally the exact same concept as season, so it doesn't really come off as original or edgy. I guess its good for them to not rely on flashy graphics to encourage people to buy new skis every year, but that's also a terrible business model as a ski company. If they don't sell skis they won't exist anymore, so it won't even matter how sustainable they were.

Vishnu puts out 3 graphics for the wet and 2 for the wide every year. It gets people fucking stoked to buy their skis. Does that mean people are buying Vs that they don't need? Fuck no, every pair of vishnus I've ever seen has gotten beat to shit. So putting out cool graphics doesn't actually create more waste - especially for park skiers. The vast majority people who throw out perfectly good skis are boomers who ski on frontside carvers, a lot of them buy new skis every season just to show off their wealth. That's not 1000s target demographic.

Second thing: the price. Who is going to buy these skis for 800 bucks? You can get ON3P for a similar price, and they have legendary durability. Vishnu wets are almost half of the price. Are park skiers actually that committed to sustainability that they will spend an extra 200 on skis? I'm not sure. If they were marketing more towards touring/pow skiers, then maybe I could see it. But most fans of the Bunch are park/street skiers, or they at least have roots in the park/street scene. So yeah - who is buying these for 800 bucks?

Finally, and this has been said, but the length. They need to be longer lol

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking but didn't really know how to say. They really pullin a HG except without the cool graphics. Hope they do well but honestly I'd be shocked if they did

I’m not personally a fan because I love seeing graphics that brands put out. I think it speaks to their creativity and originality. That being said, a sustainable initiative is fucking awesome to see. I think it’s something that more brands should look in to (not that everyone is creating gross amounts of waste) and I think it’s cool to see. THAT being said, I’m not stoked on how the skis look personally but they do look fun as shit. I’d rather give 800 bucks to ON3P or Moment but to each their own, I’m sure we’re gonna get some insane content from them!

Biggest concern to me is that the "Team" are comprised of board members/execs. Hackle, Magnus, LSM, and Peyben are all owners/board members of the company, so it feels a little disingenuous to have them portrayed as strictly ambassadors without disclosing their actual roles in the business. As such, they are going to be more inclined to hype up the skis performance/positive qualities then if they were just sponsored or flowed the gear, because the sales/brand perception directly affect their bottom line, personal and professional. I'm not saying that the intent is to be shady or bad, but it does seem like they are intentionally avoiding acknowledging that ownership comprises the team. Also semi cap skis for $800 is just insane as everyone else has mentioned. Comparable offering from other brands (sick day, marksman, Bent Chetler 100) are all around $600 or less, significantly less expensive than the offerings from 1000. Also, they are operating direct to consumer only, like J skis, so their margin should be much better meaning they can have lower prices which is not what we see.

Also, all this talk about being sustainable, but I have yet to read anything discussing what they are doing to do that. Are they using environmentally friendly resins? Are they recycling old material? Are they just buying carbon credits? Is it all greenwashing? It just all seems like one big marketing gimmick at this point. They list their core values as sustainability, quality, and community, but offer nothing to back up what they are doing to promote sustainability, there is no information regarding their products quality and construction, and "community" as a core value feels like marketing speak. At this point it looks suspect at best, but I'm hoping they will produce actual documentation and data to back up their sustainability and quality claims.

all of this.

They should really have a sustainability outline laid out on the website. All I have seen is ‘we’re trying’ or something to that effect. This should be set up before even thinking to start selling skis and using sustainability as a marketing tool.

Remember that kin brand or whatever that was on NS a few weeks ago with the all black graphic and people said they looked sick? Can’t believe I see people shitting on the all red graphic it looks sick I can’t lie

Same as y’all should do which is test your shit before judging it? Me and all my friends have broken Line, Volkl, Factions, ON3P, and Rossi the only ski NONE of us managed to break/delam/edge decay after one season was K2

Takes me like three tries to understand how you form your sentences.

I have this convo with people so much and everyone always has a story about breaking (insert ski company) skis. So I really think it’s down to luck when it comes to skis, there really is no ski company that is better than the rest, it all comes down to chance IMO.

I have had terrible luck with line/on3p/k2/Rossi. I have broken around 3 pairs of K2’s from various years, for me they have been the least durable brand. Contrary to popular belief, I have been on factions for 5ish years now and - since they changed their core - they have been my most durable skis by far.

People talk about ON3P being durable but me and homies that have ridden them have either broken or had really bad delam issues with them.

I think the factor for me that matters the most is not how durable a ski is but how long it takes before they become clapped out noodles.
