100 Greatest Quotes from fundamentalist christian chat rooms

"One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of

Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an

environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law

that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started

out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't

possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it."

Unless I'm reading this wrong, couldn't that force be God or a god? Doesn't he in a way prove that if evolution were true that there would have to be a god?

Man I love listening to people who are uneducated in a religious sense but still try and force their ways on everyone else. It creates so many great arguments and this thread sure proves that.

is thrread is actually one of the most amazing things to come out of nsg in quite some time. ns, give yourselves a pat on the back.

hitler was never ex-communicated because he was never a catholic. Considering he is from germany I am going to guess he was a protestant of some sort.

A. Men are born inherently separated from God, and born into a sinful world, giving them a sinful nature. Men are thus prone to wickedness. Prone to sin = inherently evil, by definition of evil as the opposite of benevolence, characterized in God, of which we are separate from.

Yes, I am inherently prone to want to look at the porn on the web and commit adultery (which also means sexual immorality), I am inherently prone to, though knowing I should not, talk trash and blaspheme about people (commonly known as gossip)... I feel a strong desire to do such things... Of course, in every second of your life you aren't trying to find ways to sin, but you and I will invariably do things we know we shouldn't.

B. EXACTLY! Religion, in and of itself a GOOD thing, has been used by manipulative people to control people. This is not because religion is set up to do it, it's because people are inherently wicked, and in large groups, incredibly gullible, ESPECIALLY if you do not know that which you are supposedly believing. In fact, the Bible IMPLORES people to learn about God and the faith, lest charlatans come and stray them from the flock. However, ALL THE WARS you mentioned were fought for economic and power reasons, not as a direct goal of the religion's theology. Because the masses are also a part of religion, and the masses will be manipulated by whatever that numbs their mind, religion has been used as a tool to control people. Religion, though, is not to blame, it is the people who manipulate it, and to a large extent the people who allow themselves to be led blindly. A shoe lace is used in a good way many times, but you could use it to strangle people. Is the shoe lace a murder weapon?

C. Again, if you KNEW anything about Christian theology, you'd know that the Catholics differ greatly from what the Bible actually says about salvation and the relationship we have with God. For example, in a a Catholic mass, the bread and wine is ACTUALLY supposed to BE the body and blood of Christ, not a symbol. Purgatory was introduced for a while, then phased out, but it made them a lot of money in candles and offerings. Heard of indulgences? Yeah, you could once buy your salvation. The Catholic Church has been corrupt since its inception. Read up.

D. You've probably heard of the "God Shaped hole" people have, an inherent sense of awe at the world and a feeling of insignificance that must be resolved by finding some sort of purpose and explanation for their lives lest they go mad? Answer me this? where does our conception of God, or even a "better" world, come from if we are the fabric of this Nature, an all encompassing system which somehow has allowed us to think beyond its very limits?

E. The only thing that will send (no, keep them on the path) people to hell according to Christianity is the failure to reestablish the connection severed with God. Not what they think about the entirety of the Bible, only the absolute fundamental doctrine of Jesus Christ's role in the grand scheme of salvation. Otherwise, millions of years, 7 days, it doesn't REALLY matter if this doesn't cause you to falter on the fundamental.

The Bible, and Christianity, has been the greatest agent of good in this world, and this since it's creation. Hospitals are a great thing, no? People still suck though.

F. The Bible, and Jesus, don't give you that option. He called himself the son of God, no other guru has ever done that. It means he's either batshit insane, or a liar and thus a bad man, or he was the son of God. He does not let you take his morals and stop. He, and the Bible, claim to have been the Truth. It either is or isn't. The Bible is not a code book for morality, it says to be the end all be all of how the world works.

Aut deus, aut hominem malus.

J. "Religious focus on blah blah blah" Oh come now, the Bible doesn't FOCUS on any of these things. The POLITICAL religious movement may, but not the Bible. There you go again, associating religion necessarily with anything that calls the cal on it. You can be upset, as I am, that the religious right makes it seem like Pslam 151 was written about gays, abortions and stem cell woes and then omitted. Now, explain to me why people in the western world, with a largely absent religious conscience, are still as prone to violence, rape, suicide and drug use? Haven't we evolved beyond the need for purpose dictated by religious institutions? Come on man, secular humanism has had its chance to show its obvious superiority to religious morals since they were outlawed in schools. I don't see anything much better, i'd say it got worse.

To clarify: it isn't as if a baby is born an ax murderer. However, born into a sinful/broken world, makes a sinful/broken person, from the natural order as established by God. Actions do not create the separation, it's already there. That's why sin is not on some scale of bad to worse, it's all the same.

i normally try to stay away from religious debate because there is no end to it. but in this case i do find this point quite intriguing.

the teachings of christianity tells its followers that pre-marital sex is a sin. if god holds this as a sin, why is it a natural instinct of all humans? because of this, all men in god's eyes would be inherently evil.

you say you don't have the urge to lie. so you've never told a lie in your entire life?

in my opinion and ONLY MY OPINION, religion was a doctrine created as a control mechanism. from this, formal laws of the state were created and religion is slowly becoming less and less a part of peoples' lives. don't believe me? here's my reasoning:

1. you are taught to believe in a higher power

2. you are not given actual proof that this power exists

3. you are told to live a certain way if you want to be rewarded

4. this reward only comes after death

i don't know about you but i haven't talked to any dead people to see if they were rewarded or punished for how they lived their lives.

until i can find proof i will continue to what devote christians would consider SIN.

"I often debate with evolutionists because I believe that they are

narrow mindedly and dogmatically accepting evolution without

questioning it. I don't really care how God did what He did. I know He

did it."

Wait, aren't you being a little closed minded.^

oh guy, thats cute. it shows how little you know about the bible.

you have to know that the old and new testament operate on different principles, or even different laws. deuteronomy, and the five books of moses set forth the law of moses... you can find the ins and outs of it in the great works of leviticus, numbers etc... thats where we learn that menstrating women should be cast out during their periods, that adulterers should be stoned, what activities are acceptable during the sabbath, how the double sabbath works, and other tenets that are in no way tied to modern day christianity. if you follow the old testament to a t, then you are a Jew, an orthodox Jew.

the new testament is where the christian thoeology really takes shape. thats where christ so succinctly summs up if not the entire law of moses, then certainly the ten commandments into two statements, love god and love thy neighbor. this is christianity. christ defied the rote set forth in mosaic law, and in so doing did not exactly ingratiate himself with the sanhedron, which as we all know led to his death, and all that followed it.

so, how can you go about accusing christians of intellectual and spiritual dishonesty, or 'heresy' as you like to put it, when christ himself fulfilled and set forth a new law that was in some ways at odds with the old testament? (this constituted all scripture to that point)

my point is this: you say that to be spiritually honest, a christian has to literally adhear to all tenets set forth in scripture. how can we do this when doing so would make us (christians) by definition Jewish? how can we follow moses and christ simultaniusly when their teachings, although in sync in purpose are at odds in practice?

you have to see that your point is incorrect.

thats not being a "true Christian". Many people in the world are true Christians but they may not follow the bible. The bible is meant to be read and taught contextually (as in messages, and lessons within the stories), although some people read the Bible literally and take it word for word instead of reflecting upon the stories to understand the meaning and lessons put behind them.

It's so scary how people can actually believe this. In today's world of enlightened people we still have people stuck on their old bigoted and ignorant ways.

I cannot say that i have never lied in my life, however, how many times have i lied since i've turned 18, or how many urges i've had to lie since i've turned 18, (using this as it is when we as a society start to recognize individuals as morally responsible.) is a different story.

premarital sex -- or rather you should have stated it as sex with an individual you will not spend the rest of your life with-- as marriage (in the religious sense) is not something that is applicable to all of us -- does it's apperance in the bible make it a bad act to commit?

to me the bible is much like kissing hanks ass...

ummmmmm..... what about the sun?

this has nothing to do with the original post but oh well...

when i was younger i was forced to go to church, until around 10 when i started skiing hardcore. then sunday consisted of skiing not sunday school. anyways, the older i get it seems my faith in god dwindles. the more i think of it, i just find so many false things and beliefs. i almost feel like well what if i'm wrong, and i do go to hell. but really i think the smarter i get as well, and the more i read up on it, the more religion seems like a bunch of lies. the day i tell my parents (mainly mom) i don't think i believe in god anymore hahaha who knows what will go down.

To me god seems like a plausible idea, but the God described in most religions doesn't sound like he could be real. I still think that for the most part jesus and most of the other guys have some great moral teachings. IDK I guess you have to search for yourself. I kind of like quakerism and UU. They are about discovering god for yourself and not just listening to some kind of dogmatic holy book.

"The plain truth is that both the GSA and Gay, Lesbian, Straight

Educators Network (GLSEN), the organization that registers GSAs, are

part of a vast, interconnected network of Cultural Marxist front groups

known collectively as the New Left. For over forty years, the New

Left--a collection of Marxists, Stalinists, Trotskyites, Maoists, and

anarchist--has been waging a Gramscian style quiet revolution? for

the overthrow of Christianity and America's Constitution, Rule of

Law, sovereignty, and way of life."

Could not stop laughing when I read this one, holy fucking hell.
