im glad they included slashs solo on november rain, thought it could deserve higher then 6 but oh well.

they forgot the guitar solo in dragonforce- fury of the storm.
 
haha true that, and the epic guitar solos of the mars volta, good to see they recognized brian setzer (stray cats) and radiohead, hmmm I always thought slayer's solo at the start of 'angel of death' was in there
 
I guess in the top 100 I should expect only well-known bands/solos, but there are definitely a lot of really good ones that were left out of there.
 
I think alot of Dragonforce's solos could be on there.. but they may be too new of a band to be put on the top 100 of all time... either way, Dragonforce brings the rock.

Well... they included Yes. But in all honesty Stairway's solo is, yes, awesome, but not #1. Many of Page's solos are better.

You can't really objectively make a list of the "100 greatest guitar solos of all time", so it's not really a question of agreeing or disagreeing with them. It's more like the "100 greatest mainstream (or radio) guitar solos of all time".
 
i dont think its too bad, compared to the rolling stone's 100 greatest guitarists of all time, this one blows that out of the water. Comfortably Numb should be first, although stairways is amazing, im happy cortez the killer (neil young) is on there, and very pleased to see starship trooper (yes)
 
The who shouldnt be on there. I mean pete was a great guitarist, but not at soloing.

Floods should be in the top 5.

but it seems to have a lot of good music, never looked at the ratings before,

comfortably numb should be higher i think...
 
if live stuff counted then just about every zeppelin song would be on there. jimmy page held back so much in studio and then went frikin nuts in concert, his improv shit is better than half those solos

WHat the FUCK?

The Delicate Sound Of Thunder solo of comfortably numb is more technical and epic than any stairway to heaven live or album.

Pink floyd has better music too. they actually sing about relevant shit. led zeppelin sings about, love. pink floyd-life. pink floyd wins.
 
okay Children of Bodom's solo/keys guitar war from the song Kissing the shadows basiclly made the thought of me ever being a good guitarist obsolete. that solo should def be in there. its all about the the sweeping.
 
I could make a solo sound epic with a talk box. Frampton is a good guitar player, but probably the most over-rated.
 
same solo, but the one in dsot sounds clearer and doesn't sound as mixed with the other sounds. aka it just sounds more audible.
 
smells like teen spirit? even though this song changed the face of music videos, and was a turning point in the grunge movement and musicin general, the solo wasnt super good. All he did was play the tune ofthesong. sure it had feeling, but still , idont think it deservs to be in that list.
 
Why on earth, would Stash be put on the list before Funky Bitch, YEM, Weekapaug from Madison Square?

And how can you deny Leo Kottke, the man has a style like no other and can play a 12 string like no other...
