1 thing you would change about skiing

Regularly scheduled powder days. If somehow scientists could control the weather so that a certain day every week dropped 6 feet + I would have a permanent erection

More accessible if you live in a city. I'd love to be able to just go ski a rail park on a little hill just like you can go hit a skatepark

Decent wages for those of us who have chosen to commit our lives and careers to work in the industry. I don't do it for the money but it would be nice if i didn't have to have a side job.

Newschoolers instagram whoring itself out to kook accounts.

yea, all 2 posts that they did is really whoring themselves out. Plus, assuming those shoutouts were free, would it be different if they paid for them like other companies do to get S/Os on the NS gram?

I'm pretty sure something like that happened earlier this year.

It didn't happen except those 2 times a week ago but I'm sorry for ruining the NS IG in one fell swoop & trying to expand our audience.

But actually, what made you so triggered? Was it the simple act of tagging them, the content, both, something else? I'd like to know because from my standpoint of gaining followers (which is fairly important to growing a brand), it's something that works & is effective but I'd like to do it in a way that isn't pissing off a lot of people.

It's none of my business but I feel like the followers you'll get from it won't really care about skiing. They just want to see some drunk skiers doing some dumb shit and occasionally hurting themselves- and honestly that's fun to watch. But when it comes to real ski content they won't give a damn and that's what newschoolers is supposed to be about. It's a skiing page, not a drunk skier compilation page (even though the two are somewhat inseparable). Those outreach followers are here for a good time not a long time.

can someone link me/explain? thanks

The pretentious attitude that is running rampant in the sport. Especially amount wealthy older skiers in big resorts out west. I see it a lot with young guys and gals too, acting like they get special privileges because they are a local or they "send harder than you". I guess that is what you get when you mix a bunch of rich pricks with crazy ski bums.

That's a very valid point and I'm glad you explained yourself unlike the kids on IG that were going "Fuck you NS, you know why" because ya know, that is super helpful. Anyways, I do agree to an extent that that is the type of followers that we get & that is what they want content wise but I feel like they wouldn't come to our page and follow if they weren't remotely interested in skiing or thought it was "cool" in general.

I looked through the past ~23 posts prior to those S/O & there was only 2 crash/fail shots, the rest were single dope tricks or promo for something. All I'm getting at with that is we aren't like JotD where you can only expect fails. If that's what I expected to see if I went to our page from a S/O & saw what was typically posted, I probably wouldn't follow if I didn't give a fuck about skiing. Hopefully that makes sense where I'm going.

This is what I was talking about happened earlier in the year. This is what selling out looks like. The target audience is definitely not newschoolers users, it's an irrelevant advertisement. This helmet is for sally from Texas to listen to contemporary christian country music while she pizzas her way down a catwalk at Vail. Thanks for not posting things like this since.

I agree, the helmet is really fucking stupid but I have no say in the sales side of things which is what that was.

Honestly I think the ns ig has a large enough following that like sharing shoutouts or whatever isn't necessary. Like I would love if ns was more like the squid skiing account. Posting sick shit that unknown skiers do. Or hyping up an upcoming edit/movie. It doesn't need the shit that JOTD posts, it's not our thing.

In my opinion (I'm a young buck so bare with me.) newschoolers represents the forefront of modern skiing. Whether it's park, urban, bc or big mountain. New wave, Hesh, or thug style skiing. This place represents the future and the backbone of skiing. Without NS I would have never fell in love with skiing like I did. And I think the instagram should follow in suit with the website.

I feel like NS used to be a movement of some sort. That's how it's always felt in my head. It was more than just a company or brand or website, it's a home for skiers. It's not a Jerry of the day or wildest stunts, follow for a shoutout type thing. NS should have kids look at their ig page and be like woah what the fuck is this, this is tight. And check and see what the fuck is good with this website. Because kids have no idea what NS used to be. Shit I joined in 2010 and I missed the glory days of ns.

The boots.

I came back to skiing, after 15ish years boarding, to teach little ones how to ski. I love both and will never be excellent at either, am too old now to get great at any athletic activity. The only aspect of snowboarding which I find superior to skiing are the fucking boots. I can walk around, chill, probably drive if I owned an automatic car in snowboard boots; ski boots on the other hand are just too stiff and rigid to do those things. Even if boot-fitting gnomes hand-crafted the boots from the finest foams and plastic resins, they are stiff for a reason.

Anyone who hasn't driven in ski boots is a pansy

Word! I thought I was the only one who thinks that would be a dope idea.

How everyone is so goddamn judgy, whether it be style or skill level or whatever

Totally agree. When I first got into park skiing at around 12/13. I felt stupid trying to learn rails and new tricks because all the 'good' skiers get mad at you because your not a pro. I think we should encourage new skiers more. Everyone has to learn at some point. It makes me mad to see a decent skier yell at a kid for being in the park because they are only hitting the one small jump, we should be taking these kids under our wings and helping them find the same passion we all have, not criticising anyone who isn't as good as us because it boosts our self esteem. Rant over.

People have such egos about skiing, and their skiing, but god forbid anyone else who is trying to ski. I don't understand why everyone isn't hyped on everyone else shredding. The need to "be cool" and "a fuckboi" and the general lack of respect bugs me sometimes, I don't think it helps create a super welcoming community, that being said its part of the culture mann

Stop standing in the middle of the fucking run/park. And look up hill up before you take off and don't fucking cut me off cuz i'm hot lapping this bitch.

aside from the climate, people should stop vocalizing their negative and unsolicited opinions regarding other skiers clothing/outwear choices. if people want to wear track pants, just let them do it and stop bitching about it, and incessantly complaining about how the "new wave" style is ruining skiing. In short, I would like to see less negativity in skiing
