$1 grand or less, winter car

Decided selling my car was a bad idea for college so now I am going to buy a POS beater to ferry me to the ski hill. Needs to be 1k or less. So far I have been looking at a 97~ish AWD minivan and 92-95 legacy's. I am not getting a jeep or really any SUV, the gas mileage is way too shitty. The minivan I can sleep in comfortably, bake, and haul. I am leaning towards that, it's just that they are few and far between.

Thoughts? Better ideas?

Criteria is:

1. Cheap

2. AWD/4WD

3. Good MPG

outback, jeep cherokee (not the grand and not the wrangler), s10 etc. search the shit out of craigs list or head to a salvage yard that has drive able vehicles for your state.

wow how did i overlook the brat? there's one for sale in my town but it's mint and the guy wants a fortune for it....i should get a pic and post it up later

definitely snag some pics..theres so many subie lovers on here but i don't think many have seen a brat
a guy on my street had one but it was beat up pretty bad...still a little tank tho

first gen toyota hilux. fucking rules.

that or get an old e-100. they don't have 4wd, or at least it was super rare.. but they rule. the bodies are amazing, you'll be the classiest pedophile on the block.

A hilux??? in the states??? for under a grand?? That's funny.

Just get a shit POS of any kind man and some snow chains.

Suby Justy is also a good idea.

he could get lucky, I guess I meant the 4th gen, 85-89, when they first introduced the 4runner as well.

Make your way up to Golden, BC. You can buy my car for 1000 Bones. 90 Cavalier. FWD, Fits a roof rack, has taken me everywhere. Took me down to Rossland and Nelson during the winter for a week long road trip. Gone to and around Vancouver Island with it. Put 28 000 Kms on it in a year.

Well worth it...I know you won't make your way though, I just like saying it's a good little beater car.

Ya good luck finding one that runs decent for under 4 g's. Mine cost 8.

Also, how about an old Subaru Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter? I like those....

come to ny and ill give you the ns discount on my 99 saab 9-3 for 1000 make it 1150 and ill the thule feet fit kit and cross bars on it too

i like those 4 runners. i wonder if they take a while to heat up considering its an open cab concept like a convertible.

164,xxx miles

a bunch of little cosmetic things, like the wires for the heated seated and rear defrosters are crossed, the fog lights are busted, the right side view mirror is cracked and the plastic housing is messed up, but i did an awesome tape job and it doesnt look bad at all, a few plastic pieces are messed up like the nob that adjusts floor or head for where teh heat come out of.....little stupid shit that if you could get to junk yard you can fix for pretty cheep

clutch only has 60k on it same with the fuel injector modulal, front tires are pretty new, car runs good still though a great car from getting to ptB from ptB just bought a wrx though for the winter

if anyones interested hit me up and we can talk deel

They heat up just fine, it's a hard style cap that you can remove, or at least that's what came stock. I sold this one to my gf's brother for 750. 89 which is last of the first gen 4runners, after this there was no removeable top.

Those will literally last forever.

My dad bough one brand new off the lot back in 88, it's still going strong. 400 000+ km's on it. The body is started to rust though, that'll happen will Toyota's, body will go before it.

I'm buying one once I'm done college this year. 89 4Runner, 7grand was put into a new body and some other parts. It's a friends of my family's truck, she bought a Tundra instead. 4000 bones. Works for me.

awesome man. any pictures of what the back looks like? is it a regular flat bed? can i stuff a motorcycle in the back of it with the top off? i always look around for some of them but people seem to know what they have and charge stupid prices for them.

im in the process of buying one right now. im so fucking excited, i really hope the deal works out. im going to try to murder it out for under $75 and i eventually want to do an ej22 swap and make it into the ultimate sleeper. people would be in m3's and stis next to me at the light like "is that a fucking brat?"

is that a fucking brat? WHat kind of moron would dump money into that piece of shit when you could buy a turbo Baja and look just as dumb but not have to worry about falling through the rusty floor on the highway.

yea dogg you'll be the man for gettin a brat then replacing every part! Icon stealer would totally suck your dick.

tercel sr5 all trac. is a good buy.
but then again. the 88 crylser town and country AWD turbo 5 speed minivan. is the shit. but those are never cheap

haha chill out dude, im just getting it for fun and for something to screw around with. i already have an every day driver. if anything huge goes wrong with it i will probably just scrap it.
