09 live lifes

ok, so, im moving out west next season for at least a couple years and im starting to shop now for my first pair of dedicated powder skis. i was looking and looking for some francis bacons from last year because they were sick, but they seem to be all gone...maybe some will show up on ebay.

but then i was on the jibij site and i saw the new surface live lifes...i was toooooootally blown away by how gorgeous they are. so the question is this: how did you guys feel about last year's skis? i know theyre a pretty new company, so how reliable are they?

im 5'9, 170-175 right now, probably more like 165 when i move away from this shitty virginia food, so how do you think id do on a pair of 179 live lifes?

im not going to be moving until mid december, and im worried theyre gonna be long gone by the time i get there since only a couple places sell them and theyll be in such limited supply. because of this, id probably have to buy before i try, so to speak, just to make sure i get a pair before they sell out everywhere...so id have to feel pretty confident about them since theyre in the 6 hundo range

You'd be buying last years?

if so, they probably wont be around next fall. Next year's live life's however feature a tip rocker, and come in a 189.

i was asking about last year's hoping that maybe their performance might indicate how this year's will turn out

jibij's website has them listed at 179

I have a pair. Super fun ski. They ski similar to the Bacons, but much stiffer. Think Gotama flex. Stiffer is better in my opinion. Real quality construction. Probably have over 50 consecutive days of thrasing on mine and they have held up much better than expected. My Bacons had real soft topsheets that ended up getting chipped to hell and the bases seemed to get scratched easily. I'd say the Surfaces are definitely better quality.

Doesn't Jibij have them on sale?

And by the way, the Live Life 2's and Live Life's are pretty much the same ski besides the graphics. Both are stiff, both have camber.

yeah both are super sick skis. its just a shame that the live life 2s didn't turn out like they were supposed to...

Yeah, the factory in Austria was on point with construction and quality, but it took a while to get the skis and the 2's came out like the 1's. They just switched to a factory in the states. All the new stuff will be just as good if not better quality, but they will be able to handle business easier since they will be so much closer.

Next year and the following years are going to be unreal.

yah rinky dink topsheets really are shitty

jibij is out of last year's obviously, but theyve got the 09 1's and 2's up for pre-order for around 600.

you say they're pretty stiff? ive never really had a dedicated powder ski, nor have i really ever had the chance to ride a pure powder ski in really deep stuff, but i have gotten to ski a lot of powder on poorly suited skis, and i feel like a softer flex would really feel a lot better.

so i guess when you say theyre really stiff, i hope you dont mean stiff like a pipe ski or a race ski. if i get the 1's and i weigh around 165-170, do you think ill get at least DECENT flex out of them when im in really deep stuff?

This years are stiff. Next years 2s will be soft. And have rockered tips and tails. Fun.

A pow ski isn't always soft. I prefer stiff because they're more stable when you are hauling ass. Depends on what you like and what you like to ski.

i loooove love love skiing trees when it's deep and fresh. charging more wide open stuff, a-la the vail back bowls, is fun too, and i like picking up a lot of speed, but i need to be able to make tight turns in close quarters for the trees. im a good skier, and im going to a get a lot better next season b/c ill be living at a mountain full time for the first time ever, so if you think the 1's will be decent at making quick enough turns and stops in the trees say "aye"

i dont really want a rockered ski i dont think, i like having a lot of effective edge when im riding out for the day on the 'ol groomers

this seems like a pretty big decision to be making just based on talking to you guys, even though youve had some pretty good insight. i might have to just suck it up and wait til i move to demo some sticks, and hopefully there will still be a few left when i get out to CO.
