09 Line Chronics vs 08 Line Invaders - an interesting observation

So I skied last year on my 178cm 08 Invaders, and have just got ready for the summer season in NZ a pair of 181cm 09 Chronics. Anyway firstly just some eye-candy for anybody that's interesting in some decent pics of the new chronics:

Anyway my reason for making this thread is look at the lengths of the skis. My 178cm Invaders are exactly the same as my 181cm Chronics. I have a reason for this having measured them and it's because the invaders are done as the real length from one end to the other, the chronics are done including the curve, so although they claim a few more cms it's around the curvature of the tips.

So here's a pic where the skis are exactly straight out from a wall pressed against it and you can see what I am saying about the lengths.

Is this something to do with K2 buying Line between this period or just they've changed the system they use?

they way skis are measured very differently from company to company. There are many 192's that are the exact same as 188s, but same company that seems a little weird to me. My only guess to look at the tips and the chron's looked longer and also camber. If the crons have more camber its plausible that could account for some of the missing cm's.

this happens a lot actually. It usually happens because some manufacturers measure skis/snowboards before they shape the tips.. I have seen snowboards that were 156's that were bigger than 158's..

if you measure 2 ski's from different brands that are both 171's, you can almost bet that they will be different lengths.

Some companies simply need a size to feel a hole in their line.. you know what I mean?

I know that's why I suggested they've changed the sytem. What's particularly odd in this example is they are both Line skis. Would you not expect line to either have called the Invaders 181s or the Chronics 178s?

Line joined K2 before those Invaders of yours were made. It has nothing to do with a "changed system". Some skis are built with longer tips and tails.

Both skis measure the same including the curve of 181cm. And both skis measure the same without the curve of 178cm. My question is why they donate them different lengths on release.

Although I did buy those invaders in May 2007, anybody know when Line went under K2's manufacture? Or does anybody have some bought from November 07 on that they would like to measure quickly?

Tim

i have 182 darksides and 178 invaders and theyre the same length. and thats pre-k2 and post-k2 respectively

So... for anybody that is still interested, I have just bought some 178cm 09 Anthems as well and well this is really weird but they are slightly longer than my 181cm Chronics. I don't get the Line/K2 length system at all, I want to find somebody that works there to explain it :P

Can I have some of your money?

Also why ar6's and invaders? Why anthems and chronics? It seems like those skis are pretty similar.

AR6s from 07, Invaders from 08, (AR6s got knackered, now Invaders are knackered).

And I'm currently in Wanaka, NZ, instructing at Treble Cone most days so leave my Chronics up there while I ride my Anthems at Snow Park NZ on my days off, works pretty well.

Although I could definitely do with getting less addicted to buying skis :)
