09 JJ / Bacon / Obsethed

Hi people.

So I'm doing a season in BC soon, and I really want/need some pow skis.

I'm 5'11 and about 140lbs.

I've read quite a bit about fat skis, and have narrowed it down to these 3. I'm not an expert on pow skis so I thought I'd ask for the advice of ns. Also your advice on bindings.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

id do the jj, or maybe arg???

and dukes or griffons for bindings, or those solomon ones everybody uses, those would be fine.

id for sure do rocker

what do u plan to ski with these skis? booters? charging? jibbing? will you be using them anywhere else on the mountain?

I want to use them for pow days and backcountry mostly, but also playing around on the mountain when there's quite a bit of snow.

I'll be using my Rossis for park and groomers mostly.

So I'm favouring 08 Bacons at the moment, I can pick them up the cheapest, and I prefere the graphics compared to the 09 Bacons.

(I know that's not what it's all about but when it comes day to little things..)

Anything to sway me to the other 2?

Thanks for the help so far.

Oh forgot to add.. backcountry will consist of drops, cliffs, spins etc, not just charging through the pow.

Id go with the JJs, not a contest if you are just looking for 1 fat ski for all pow. Obsethed and bacons are great skis, but I dont think they can compare. Of course you can probably snag a pair of last years bacons and save some dough and still get a fantastic ski~

I bought jj's this year to replace my steez's as a new pow/everyday/boot ski and although I haven't had a chance to ride them the rocker is plenty for whatever depth of pow you may encounter and the camber under foot is more then enough to carve on pack. I have seen all three of these skis this year, and although didn't consider the other two they may be a good choice for what yor looking to do. The obseths would be freindly enough for most any one and i cant say much about the bacon's, ive seen them but haven't taken a very close look at them.

++ Karma for all the replies.

Hearing so many good things about JJ's, and read so many good things about Bacons last season.

I can get 08 Bacons a lot more cheaper than 09 JJ's obviously, and I prefere the graphics on the Bacons.

Still want to hear more about people riding the JJ's.

Which bindings will be best for JJ's and Bacons?

Marker Griffon

Marker Jester

Rossi Scratch 140 TI WB

Salomon STH

Look PX 12

Any more ideas?

I too am very curious what bindings everyone suggests for the jj's. Im gonna be picking up a set of jj's and i think i have decided upon the axial2 140 ti binding. But i am very open to suggestions because i am not by any means an expert when it comes to backcountry pow riding. I was also considering a px/axial 18 din binding for the ability to raise the din and have a bullet proof binding.

Salomon makes solid bindings that work on pretty much every ski, just look at the STH16s. But i've had some good experience with Jesters, and i can say that they perform really well with wider skis. If i was buying this years JJs i'd go with Jesters..

Bacons are a great midfat ski,

I rocked them all last season with Jesters. They are a great ski, nice and soft and playful, they are not a charging ski. Due to the sidecut they are very very easy to ski on groomers and fun in the park. I'd say Bacons are a one ski quiver if you like a soft fat ski. The JJ's would float better due to the dimensions and mainly the rocker. I mounted my Bacons near true center (like -2) and they are great in pow no doubt, but on occasion (more than 2 feet of fresh) they can tip dive sometimes, but I think that's jsut cause i mounted mine close to center as an all mtn. mount.

As far as the Obsethed, I wasn't really impressed by the dimensions or rocker or anything reallly. They just aren't fat eough for me, however I bet they are very very versatile.

JJ's will float the best, then Bacons or Obsethed, due to where you mount either ski.

If you really want a ski for 100% pow go with Donner Party's, Bents, ARG's, or something that is massive fat and rockered and if you want reverse sidecut do that too. I just got Donner Party's and can't want to ride them. They dwarf my Bacons.

I have similar binding choices as you for my jj's. Personally I think I'm gonna go with rossi 120, 140's there reasonably priced and iv'e ridden them forever. Although all of your other binding selections are legitimate options as well, i also looked into STH 14's.

Ill be mounting my 09 JJs with marker dukes, its going to be pretty sickter, but im guessing thats not what you are looking for lol~

Thanks for that, good to hear about the bacons from someone who has used them quite a bit.

Will Griffons be equally good?

I wont be using the bacons JUST for pow, so i kinda want to mount them as an all mountain ski, but still be playful in new snow and the backcountry.

You know, I actually might go with the Obsethed skis. I haven't ridden them unfortunately, but the more and more I think about it they are/could be a one ski quiver as well, and with the rocker I bet they just slay. the 105 waist would be good at anything and pretty damn nimble.

all the skis will be good, all are quality skis, the Bacons are wider so that will make up for them not having rocker.

Griffons should be fine, I haven't ridden them but I love my Jesters.

Id say theyre less likely to feed you bullshit, but theyre about just as likely to call you a jong ass motherfucker and start flaming the shit out of you turning your post into utter garbage~

Just had a brief look on TGR, a lot of the threads end in hate ha.

Just cant see why skiers are so negative towards other skiers.

Still need to decide on bindings I think. I'm only like 140lbs, and I'm looking at Griffons, but I've read that they haven't quite proved themselves yet. Are they durable enough for pow and some park/groomers?

I don't mash my skis like some people. Will they will be ok on fat skis?? Haven't heard bad things about Jesters, it's just about the ££££

if you live in canukistan, good luck getting JJ's.

but seriously, i;m convinced that that ski is the greatest one ever invented. it's perfect in every aspect from sidecut to early rise to flex. if you can, buy it.

Yeah I live in the UK, so they're not hard to get, just extremely expensive compared to the US.

And as for perfection, I personally think the graphics let them down, I definitely wouldn't say they're perfect, but that's just being picky.

If I could get the JJ's on roughly the same deal that I'm able to get the Bacons at, I'd have some JJ's already, but.. I can't =(

i ski the seth vicious and it works for me with every type of skiing. I would go with the obsethed because they are not too much different besides the rocker. Theyll last awhile and look/ski great.
