'08 Salomon Skis/STH Bindings Your Thoughts.

Just unpacked most of the new '08 Salomon Skis and many of the boots and bindings as well. Some of the SPK Kreation Boots are in too along with Kaos. What is everyone's thought on the new Foil and Gun Ski Graphic.

The new STH 16 Binding is pretty sick too and looks like it will proove to be as beefy as the P18.

(work, work, work, work..............)

329 on evogear, better be a beefy one.

the salomon line is dope this year. the foil graphics are sick. i mean they have jesus on them,,,,, WOAH!

haha

i'm getting foils with sth16's and spk kreations.

I'm kinda sketchy about the STH 16's, I mean basically they said they took the S916's and made them lighter by taking out most of the metal, the reason people buy S916's is because they're metal and won't break.

I had the same thought as you, but still decided to have a go with them. They do look to have strong construction and won't have to give in to the metal version to much.

I have been using the STH 16's for 1.5 years now and they are dope, way lighter but just as strong. Our team has tested them in all conditions and we wouldn't let them out to you if they where not improved and bomber!!! If you have any questions message me.

The three main problems with salomon bindings have been fixed in the STH16.

1. There is no longer the spheric AFD on the toe piece, it has been replaced with the flat AFD from the 914/916 zz lab.

2. The toe wings are individually adjustable. As a result the fit should be waaaay less sloppy (the flat AFD should help with that as well).

3. The bullshit heal track is gone and replaced with a metal wormscrew heel like the 916s. This is the biggest and most important change. This also means it has the 5 screw pattern in the heel.

Yes, the toe is mostly plastic, and the heel cup is plastic (but who ever broke a heel cup), but thats not really a big deal. I've got to say it's a pretty sick binding and it weighs more than 2 pounds less than the 916s. If I didn't have 2 pairs of 916s sitting around I would be getting some STHs for sure.

salomon dont have the 914 any more. I wonder whether atomic will still be selling it this year under their ffg brand? Oh yeah and there is also an sth12 which has the same heel as the sth16 but with the z series toe piece, beefed up obviously. I went for the sth12 over the 16 as I like not having to adjust wings and toe height, plus I dont really need a 16 din binding.

give it a few months and i have a feeling the STH16 is going to dominate..(subject to its price).

Freeskier: " The big change this year is Salomon ditching the 914 model and instead producing two options - the STH 12 and the STH 16. To compensate for the loss of the mid-model, Salomon has made one major and important chance: It made the STH 16 lighter. Now suitable not only for top-level experts, the STH 16 is a reasonable binding for all advanced skiers..."

Freeskier has a fairly large readership, so they would want to get the facts pretty straight up..
