05' vs 06' ARMADA ANT

So i need a big mountain & powder ski and am looking at the ANT. The difference in price between this years and last years is $135. Im 6'3" 170lbs. Hit me up with your thoughts on which to buy?
 
way lighter.

and softer up front. price isnt that much different.

buy what you like better. whats got more appeal.
 
I want it for powder, hitting BC booters switch, BC switch, but i want to handle the big mountain when theres not a ton of pow too, so i need that rigidty
 
This year's is quite a bit softer in the nose, but still just as stiff underfoot. I'd say they're both around the same weight, or at least close enough that I didn't notice a difference. I ride '05s and love them, but the stiffness does make it necessary to ski at a very fast speed in order to get top performance out of them. It comes down to how hard you charge. If you're constantly dropping your buddies like bad habits, and rarely rolling onto a hard edge in big mountain areas, go with last years. This years should be more forgiving though as far as float and slower speed performance go.
 
yeah, i would say look at something like JPs, or maybe even some gots, the Ants arent gunna be to much fun for skiing switch in pow pow, especially last years, you have to mount them to far back
 
but how do the JP's handle on big mountain but not big pow, i mean do they flip flop around like a pair of scratch BCs. Last year I was in whistler in Feb and there was no pow. I was on the BC's and they were flip floppin around like a fish out of the water?
 
yeah they do, but you wount be happy with the ants for booters and switch in pow, you might want to look at the gots, or some SVs
 
if you're a strong skier they"ll be fine. Id go with this years cause I think the softer tips would give you the more versatility that you're looking for.
 
dude we have some ants in our shop, they are still hella stiff, even though they got softer this year, and they are pretty light. They'd be awesome, and as for mounting them, you don't have to mount them recommended. The jp juliens would be fine big mountain skis, and probably the best for switch pow. if you look at all of jp auclair and julien's segments they are riding the jp juliens for all of their big mountain segments. they are a bit softer, but i'm pretty sure good powder skis aren't supposed to be super stiff, and they are a bit stiffer than scratches.
 
my buddy has new 05' s and i have new 06' in the mail right now. So it will be interesting to see how they flex side by side etc.
