That's funny because in the 21 years I've been skiing and snowboarding, I've never heard of a model being released a full year early. I don't care that K2 calls it an 04/05, it's a marketing gimick and you've totally bought into it.

The fact is they released the new skis 2 weeks into the ski season, so Im pretty sure that makes them this seasons skis. And this season is 03/04.

hey asswipe, it also has to do with the fact that the PE was fucking huge, bigger then k2 could have even imangined, so big that they sold out almost as soon as they hit the market. So k2 hurried shit up and put next seasons skis into production so that they would have a product to sell. look at next seasons catologe, its got the black pe's in it. They are next seasons skis, and were released early for more reasons then to get kids to buy the upgraded version. and look at the popularity of the new pe, already the first shipment across the pond is sold out, obviously k2 knows what there doing.

Cool. Mabye the 04/05's will sell out soon and we'll be able to get the 05/06's by March. Then they could release the 06/07's next December. That would be sweet, next season I could be riding the newestest super futureistical 2007 skis. K2 would be years ahead of the competition if they did that.

They wouldn't even have to change the design of the ski, they could just change the graphics and call it a new ski. Hell they should just change the graphic on a monthly basis and this time next year, you could have your very own 2016/2017 PE.

Wow I'm going to email this suggestion to K2's marketing department because obviously you dipshits would buy into it.

your such a tool, and obviously dont understand what went on in the last few months at k2. I will reiterate what i atempted to say.

K2 had a huge success with the PE this season, bigger then they even could have expected. Buy late october/early november most companys have already started production on next years equipment. So when k2 sold of of 03/04 PE's, they hurried the 04/05 production run, which was already in process. Buy doing this, they can offer a new ski, and fafill orders of the much wanted, underdog ski. That, along with the fact that all manufactures are releasing mid season skis for obvious reasons, is why k2 has next years ski out. Now, that particular 04/05 PE is actually sold out of, for first ship over the pond, but they will not be making a new model to next year, just continuing to produce this model.

Ok, so you ask, why the sudden urge in mid season releases? Well is actually simple marketing. A new ski usally comes out in the off season correct? Now, how many people in the off season are reading freeze (freeze doesnt even print during the offseason) or watching x games, none. So by companys doing mid season releases, they can generate much more interest in there product for must less money. People are reading ski mags right now, there watching skiing on tv, so the customer is involed right now, not like the off season. K2 was brilliant in there plan this year. Get there skis out quick, and people will want them. And it shows, im sure that if you compared stats in sales from the old enemy, to the Pe you would be amazed. K2 moved there production facilitys to China, not to cut costs, but for production consistoncy. Along with that move comes lower costing skis, which is exaclty what this market needs.

Im all for k2, and you need to pull you head out of your ass for a change, dickface.

^My point was that I've never heard of a model being released 11 months early not that I've been riding longer.

The only person who gave a half way reasonable explanation was vtrider but I don't agree with him on 2 points. I don't understand how K2 could release a ski that performs like the PE and looks as good as the PE at that price point and not realize it would be a huge success. Also I don't believe that K2 will not be releasing a new model next year.

PE was a mid-season release last year. They didn't hit the shelves until late December (if you were lucky, most places mid to late January). Seeing as K2 was going to release those same skis this fall, they labeled them the 03/04 model. This year, due to a lot of factors including selling out earlier than anticipated (K2 was pretty much dry of them in late November), they started shipping 04/05 skis about 3-4 weeks ago. This fall at your shop, you will see the black/gold graphic 04/05 PEs on the wall. You'll notice that the Fujative is an 04/05 ski as well, because they'll be shipping it in that exact form to ski shops this fall for the 04/05 season.

It's not a marketing gimmick at all, they are next seasons skis. They've just been released early. You aren't going to see new PEs or Fujatives next fall, they'll be the exact same as what everyone's buying right now.
