    Skiing Crud???

^^^^^^^ Nah, man. You're gonna want to widen your stance--shoulder-width at least. Feet together are good for bumps and 80's ski movies, not much else. A wider stance will give you a stronger, more balanced platform. It will also allow you to use both edges more effectively. Watch Seth...

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

What? Sendai doesn't have exceptional skiing or surfing by any standard. Nor are the mountains even nearby. Also the weather is shitty and the city is mediocre. I share your love of Japan (I lived in Yamagata-ken for two years), but that's stretching it.

    Big Easy Beta?

Oy. A little too late, fellas. Good on you for getting up there though.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

No. But I'm most likely older and definitely smarter than you, and I appreciate the offerings of a real city. SF has great food, music, culture, etc. But you wouldn't know that because you're a fucking moron.

Who's taken a trip to Japan

I can assure you that there are cheaper tickets out there. You should be able to get tickets for around $1000. Also, FYI, Japanese airlines (and other Asian airlines for that matter) are so much better than American ones.

Who's taken a trip to Japan

I lived there for a couple years. If you live in the West, you'll probably find the skiing a little underwhelming. The lack of attitude in the parks is refreshing though. Places to see? I think Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, Nara) is where it's at. So much fun to be had there. Hokkaido is...

STOP POSTING MOVIE SEGMENTS ON YOUTUBE

I sometimes buy ski movies because of such YouTube segments. To me YouTube is kind of like the radio. It's nice because it's free and you can get a sense for what you like. And if a song/clip is great, I'll buy the the album/movie because the radio/YouTube is no substitute for the real thing...

    What would your lineup be?

Seth (given) Candide (given) Kevin Andrews or Scott Schmidt (I wanna see if either ol' man still rips) Mike Douglas (probably not a popular choice, but he's been doing some great big mountain/progressive segments recently) Jamie Pierre (freak factor; respect him or not, his segments are hard...

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

San Francisco. Amazing city. But I'd also want a Lear Jet to fly me to Kirkwood.

    Big Easy Beta?

Anybody been? Is a day or evening pass worth the $70-$90 that they're charging? Lots of jumps? Do you have to hike for everything? I saw them setting up in Glacier Bowl last Saturday. It looked like they were gonna have some decent jumps and a nice quarter pipe.

Single favorite ski movie of all time

Blizzard of Ahhs. I saw it at a point when all my buddies were taking up snowboarding and decided I'd be a skier for life. I also decided that I'd ski Chamonix some day.

Holla if you still have snow

Open until June, with 10" of new snow on the top and temperatures in the 60's this weekend. (Mind you, it's not powder. But the corn skiing has been sweet.)

Which mountains should we get passes to

Agreed. It's got a great vibe, too. In terms of terrain, I think Snowbird is equal to Alta though.

The best pro skier out there

They're certainly two of the best current skiers, but I don't know if they are necessarily better than legends like Doug Coombs, Scott Schmidt, or Trevor Peterson. Those guys all pioneered lines and mountains that many current pros are still afraid to ski. And, as much as I enjoy watching...

The best pro skier out there

I have little doubt that Candide is in fact a great big mountain skier (superhuman sense of balance + fundamental mogul skills), but I've never actually seen it. Is there a ski film that shows him skiing big lines? (I'd really like to see it.)

    Ski Equipment Thread Suggestion

I agree. Given the number of replies and updates, it's a popular forum. That said, things like ski reviews tend to get lost among the threads, which is why there should be two separate forums. (FYI: I know there is an actual ski review section, but as I far as I know there is nothing to...

    Ski Equipment Thread Suggestion

I think the Ski Equipment Thread should be split into two separate threads: (1) One thread for discussion of ski equipment; and (2) a buy/sell/trade thread. As it's currently configured, most of the actual discussion of ski equipment is lost among all the buy/sell/trade posts.
