    Avalanche death

Dude, if there's anything you learned in that course, I hope you learned the #1 principle of avalanches: they don't care about how much you know.  People who have studied avalanches for 20+ years die in slides; taking a course is great, but feeling confident after two days is like someone...

    Skateboard filming vs Ski filming

I haven't seen the vid, but the two are way too different to even compare.  For one, you can shoot skating every day of the year it doesn't rain.  In a place like California, that means you can shoot 320+ days a year if you want to. Skiing?  You might get 30 good days.  Another thing is the...

    Ur thoughts on Mark Abma

He's the shit.  He rips everywhere and is a super cool guy.  I don't even think he owned a car all of last season.  He'd often be seen hitchhiking from Whistler to Squamish in the rain.

    Idea trend whores (short rant)

Not true.  Granted, some skiers who are still top pros (Pollard, Wilson) were snowlerbladers.  But what the Canadians (Douglas, Cusson, Szocs, Vinny, JP) were doing at the same time snowlerblading was at its peak was not inspired by snowlerblading whatsoever.  Most skiers (at least everyone I...

    Idea trend whores (short rant)

#1 It does affect me.  Skiing's overall image matters for anyone associated with the industry.  Snowlerblading was terrible for skiing and probably turned more potential skiers into snowboarders.  It was just as bad for skiing as one-piece Bogners.  If that's how the masses perceive skiing...

    Idea trend whores (short rant)

Not to mention 90% of those who drop their poles because of watching Idea are likely going to regress their own skiing.  Just because super talented guys like Pep and Andy look good without poles doesn't mean you will.  Most will probably make skiing look worse.  I think only the best can...

    Msp is boycotting rails???

Sammy has maybe 6-7 rail shots in his segment, but just because that's about it for rails in SSD doesn't mean MSP has anything against rails.  Most MSP skiers are from places where rails aren't a focus of their skiing, and while most of those skiers are stoked to slide rails every now and then...

    Simon Dumont Song??????????

The searchbar would end up giving you the proper answer: C'mon by Acts 29 off the Rumblefish record label.  I've heard people have a difficult time finding it, though.

    Squaw valley

Yeah, it all depends on the season.  All it takes is one or two good storms, and you can go from dry to skiing almost everything.  One year, November 28 was an epic day--20" new on top of a 5-12 foot base already.  But what Squaw opens first has no snowmaking, so you've just got to count on...

Simons song in seven sunny days

If you're talking about his dvd extra segment, it's C'mon by Acts 29 from the Rumblefish record label.

Seven Sunny Days review.........MSP's best film since Focused

Unfortunately Hugo was slower coming back from a serious knee injury than expected and didn't want a sub-Hugo segment in the flick. Check the dvd extras.

First industry to make a rockered product?

Have you ever actually skied the Spatula? Go to Squaw on a powder day and tell the 50 or so people on Spats that their skis suck, and then try to keep up with them. In soft snow, those skis rule. And they are heavy in the hand, no doubt, but all the surface area (weight) is under your feet...

Seven Sunny Days review.........MSP's best film since Focused

They'll probably figure it out well before you stop bagging on them. Your 1,000+ posts laying into MSP have grown far more stale than if they put out 50 of the same movie.

    Kangs are making a comeback...

Probably not really necessary. TJ's got them dialed.

    $$$$$ Ski movie prices? $$$$$

4skizzle-- MSP flicks on their skimovie.com site: The last two, Push and Hit List: $19.95 each All movies before that: $15 each, or 2 for $19.95. That's not breaking the bank.

Can I get a TGR or MSP review please...

There isn't much feedback right now on SSD because there's only been a Whistler premiere and I think that's it. The premieres are going to start flowing real soon and then there should be more word, and hopefully moves will be getting out before long. Expect some good things out of Hjorleifson.

A nice late Summer snow for California

At least 6" at High Camp on the Squaw cam. Yes. Currently dumping, too. But of course it'll likely melt in just a couple days.

    Earliest tricks off natural terrain

I was thinking about the timeline of tricks off natural terrain--cliffs, cornices or pillows--and figured the best resource for this is right here on NS. Let's keep it to non-booter stuff, but a packed-down takeoff is ok. Since the motto here seems to be "pics or it didn't happen", name off...

Anyone Else Read Cr Johnsons Article In the new Powder Magazine?

Not "CAN'T get back to the point he was," but HASN'T YET. Brain injuries are tough things, but he's consistently improving. He may not challenge Dumont, Tanner, Jossi or anyone of the top guys in pipe again, but he's got a serious future in skiing still. This summer he got his 900s back and...
