    Windsurfing

I am from MN and get in at least 40 sessions a year windsurfing. San fran is decent stuff, but not nearly as good as The Gorge on the columbia river in OR/WA or even Cape Hatteras and South Padre when they are going off. Kiting is hella fun when you have a big launch site and friends to help...

    Bike upgrades

Well since that is a low end xc bike you will probably want to swap out the fork and update your drivetrain to XT. After that get some nice light tubeless disc wheels and then some new disc brakes. For disc brakes get Avid Mechanical Disc's since they are just awsome plain and simple. A nice...

    Windsurfing

I am a windsurfing junkie. Once you get it down it will consume you. The only downside is that is kinda spendy. You will probably buy used since it's more cost effective and your newer at it. I would say at the very least your going to spend 500 and that would be for some old school gear. A new...

Do You Wear your Shoes Indoors?

Depends. When i'm at my apartment I take them off on the porch since I run a clean place. Depending on which friends house I go to I almost always wear some type of foot protection for my own safety.

    Tripod or Monopod

I use my monopods for street photography and my tripod for landscape and long exposure shots. A nice lightweight mono is fine since it isn't freestanding. However any tripod you get at Kmart/walmart/target will be junk and not worth touching your D70. As far as tripods go...Bogens are nice...

    Bussiness plan

Pick something easy with low inventory as well such as a service industry ( trail guide, lawn and landscape, cleaning, etc) Think of a business that is easy to find costs. If you do a store you will have to figure out a lot more costs which can be a bitch.

    Best bicycle under 400$

I guess I'll answer your question better. In your price range you will have very little in terms of quality. heres what to look for. Fork: Rock shox, Manituo, Fox, Marzocchi Frame: Aluminum (rigid feeling) or Cromo (softer feel) Components: Shimano: Deore (low end), LX (mid), XT (higher)...

    Best bicycle under 400$

400 wont buy you jack. Trek makes great xc bikes, but you want to have at least 600 to spend. A cheap bike will have such junky components and weigh a ton. you may be able to buy a used bike from a few years ago for that much but it will still be lower end.

    For everyone that mountain bikes

I am building up a surly 1x1 for XC riding. Prepare to get your legs burned on your first few rides. Just get your gearing right and you should be okay.

    Mtb

1000 will not get you a decent Full suspension unless you get an insane deal. Tell him to go demo some hardtails that he can afford. First bikes are learning bikes so you can rationalize getting a 3 thousand dollar bike later. Check out www.mtbr.com for reviews and just ride some.
