I ski'd until this year without poles and don't find them much of a hinderance, make going around on flat ground and getting your speed up easy. As for tricks if it is steezy it will look good with or without poles imo...

Yeah, they were sick as was the nose press. I generally find poles are only useful for covering flat ground otherwise they are a bit pointless.

Yeah, Norway and Sweden have the best snow at the moment (most of them have 1m+ all over). Everywhere is predicted snow this week (6 inches in the UK - doubt that much will fall though).

Totally agree with everything you have said. I will never become pro and have always skied for fun, if it wasn't enjoyable I wouldn't do it as much as I try to (Scottish snow is generally crap and unpredictable). I accept the fact that I won't be able to a sw10 (or even a sw9) and don't care...
