haha you cant just put a 5 speed short shift... its an automatic transmission he'll have to change the whole transmission and put a new one in it, which might not even be affordable for him and it's totally useless to change a car from automatic to standard

yeah i was only saying they are ''tanks'' because the engine is unkillable... but with less performance i am into mechanics if you want (mostly planes though) and powerful engines dont last long because of mechanical contraints (high pressure and heat mainly)

you can also have a lot more fun with cars that are cheaper, less HP but less heavy too anyway if you're really into that car, buy it, bu be sure you can pay not only the car, but gas, maintenance, insurance.... etc

if you have a shitload of spare money after buying the car, great but prepare for major maintenance costs

american cars are nothing compared to japanes cars hondas and toyotas are like tanks, you can beat the shit out of them and the engine will last a long time these cars are the best bet for a first car, especially older models which have a lot more potential than american cars
