i use skeletools, and rollerblade elbow and knee pads. they are a little tough to get used to, but i only use them for big mountain skiing. i would recommend a low profile setup that does not restrict movement hard shell like 686 is really restrictive.

you want to have alot of extra speed, because you loose speed really fast after you let go of the tow rope. we usually get a ton of speed, then adjust by speed checking.
