i completly disagree about the ski academy comment. ski academies don't teach style. that is something that the athletes have to come up with and develop on their own. what being coached does is help make sure that the skier is executing the trick right and help the kid not to kill himself or screw himself over getting an injury doing something sketchy. i think if anything ski academies push the envelope and help advance this sport even more by getting these athletes to live up to their potential. being out on the slopes every day is definitly going to help riders develop style. if you look at the ski academy athletes, they don't just huck their meat and hope that they land. they throw down tricks that just ooze with style.
fuck one footers style is your own and it is gay to copy others exact style how you rock the shit you where is your style and if your shit is baggy then so be it. there is no set music so what ever you listen to is cool. and fuck people trying to make our spot a disipline
yea that whole thing was tyte about all the stuff that you never hear about the skiers talking about it's crazy. fo real like the whole baggy pants thing that's not a big deal at all who cares it's tyte that people have fun with it and try to get bigger and baggier stuff then the last person it's just another way for us to have fun with our skiing. it's not like everyone czn get their hands on jon's j lindenberg shit. that stuff is sick but that's not wut all the companies are putting out. and the whole thing about schools is like yuh schools are sweet i wouldn't know i guess but just think it's basically just like riding with your friends but ur getting to ride with even better people that you normally wouldn't be able to get the opportunity to ride with. doesn't that push most people to advance the sport and push skiing because you want to do better then the next guy. and some kids got no one to tell them how to do a rail or a 180. and a lot of it is just you need someone to boost your confidence so why not go to a school. and you always hear about all the pros skiing at the "schools" to progress in the off season and isn't that the time where you see most kids there cuz in the winter they are tearin it up at their local place.
wow, the comments here are actually very good for once. With the one-footers i personnaly don't care if a trick comes from snowboarding, skateboarding, or inline it's one more variation and it adds to the bag of tricks. I base things on difficulty more than stlye, but don't get me wrong, style is important.
Spelman: But let’s talk about the skiing. Do you guys think it [newschool] is going to become pro in the end. For example there are already established schools in freeski.
i don't think that a singler skier in this conversation/interview even understood this question.. ski academies were never mentioned in the question, there are multiple meanings to the word school kiddies.
yeah what a cool article, lets have more like this, i do not like gangsta but liked dumont defended it - they were all really good in this and i agree with the baggy clothe thing so much!
1) if u dont listen to rap u wont understand the 'gangsta' style.
2) dont tell someone their music is shit. im sure ur euro trash shit sucks dick. all i wanna hear about is cars, crack, and bitches over hot beats. im not even kidding. so shut the fuck up.
3) ski academies are nasty. ski every day. have fun and learn w/ some great skiers and coaches. the fuck is wrong with that?
I get up ca 0800, go to school from 0830, stuck there to 1130, hit the slopes from 1200-1600, home to eat, hit the slopes again from 1800-2100, go home eat and pass out in front of the TV..
And i did this for 3 years attending high-school!! I was amazing! I thought you Sweds would know better than to critize your heroes from Aare, Jon and Henke..
I only speak for Scandinavia now, the following went to "freeride-schools":
Jon Olson, Henke Windstedt, Grete Eliassen
New dope riders from NOR attended/attending Skischools:
Espen Linnerud, PK Hunder, Erik Naess, Andreas Disch, and plenty more..
Snowboard Pros from Norway Attended/Attending:
JP Solberg, Mads Jonsson, Andreas Wiig, Fredrik Austboe, Mikkel Bang, Danny Larsen, ADi Velic,
There are not any coaches pushing you around, they're just making sure things run smoothly like driving the kids around, staying with them at some of the camps, planning tricks, making sure they do homework... And the coaches are not "Coaches", but more like riders and former riders..
In Norway we got prob one skischool at every major skiresort (correct me if im wrong, fellow Norwegians)..
this was really good reading this discussion, i have met spelman before, he makes the films with jon but keeps a low profile letting jon be the face of it all, strike was a shit good movie
yeah like above, really good to hear the riders speak!!!!!!!!
