give jon a break, he obviously doesnt mean to sound like a bitch. watch his video blog, he explains shit. He doesnt want people in wheel chairs cause of bad jump building.
people need to stop bitching about Jon... if you think about how he talks in all his video blogs and try to imagine him saying all that during an interview (maybe i smoke too much weed, but when i read that, i basically "heard" him saying it), he was probably just listing off his thoughts and just saying whatever came to mind during the interview. we've all looked at our park and thought it was better last year, bitched about the jumps being "off", etc, etc... he's just doing the same thing.
"Well last year they had pretty much the best early season park ever. This year’s really good too. Not as good as last year"
"Well if they have a big air and not a small air, which I’m assuming it’ll be, I would be stoked, but I doubt it’s going to be a big air."
"You know it’s nice when I see other people doing doubles and most of them still have a lot of work to do."
"It’s hard when you reach this level; it’s hard to find new tricks. You know the ones that I thought I could do, I sort of did already."
not that i dont like him, but thats just the vibe i got from him... - theking -
sorry man but if you are going to drag choosen quotes out of the interview, everyone can sound like a bitch.... first of all quote one, i think he made himself very clear that this is a really good park, but that it was just better last year. just because the jumps and conditions look good doesn't mean they are. he also made very clear that it was only his opinion.
quote too i can very much agree with Jon. x-games and us open have always hosted the smallest jumps. not very exciting to ski, and makes it boring to watch. the skier have got to enjoy skiing to throw down.
quote three he quite clearly says that the doubles are hard and that he doesent want to focus on new ones when the old/new ones arent perfect. and i dont think he can be blamed for worrying about safety.
quote four is true! he shouldn't go out and try new ones when he already has invented half of the new doubles. he has got all bragging rights.
after pioneering the sport, he has got all rights to be a little picky about his jumps. he has over and over, prooven that he makes the best jumps. tj and simon and pk all said that the JOI jumps are the best ever, and im sure the others would agree. i even had the chance to try the first single JOI kicker once, and i will never forget it. loads of airtime without worrying about the safety that much.
props to Jon for being the best influence on this sport ever!
jon is a pioneer, he has seen friends and competitors fall to season enders as much as anyone. i ski in an area where our financially broke ass hills wont blow enough snow to make a true 20 ft table and they are sketchy as hell when they are built with tiny trannies for a long 5 wk season - many people can relate on the east coast. so when i read jons words i wonder if jumps should be perfect or not so perfect...why should the 1percent of freeskiers get to hit perfect jumps when the rest of us hit shit? then i think before i post somethin lame...these boys are hittin massive shit everyday we watch them, if they want to ski for many days many year they need to be selective just like we are selective what days we ditch work to ride. i praise jon and tanner for puttin a voice out there for all the industry to listen too. jossi and pk are chill and keep it easy in their words - they just have shit to prove right now not too worried about makin a movement in the industry. jon has done it all - seriously - watch propoganda or some other early 2000 shit - hes tryin to move this thing to the next level. big props to that dude and all the ballars takin it up to the next level. keep buildin em big and prime.
oh ya if ya think jon cant hit sketchy shit go for a rip through some gates @ 60mph with him,,,,good luck keepin up.
better jumps=better and faster progression. Jon may be picky about his jumps, but look at the shit he throws down.... We all know that better jumps are more fun and safer to hit. Its Jon's opinion and I respect that.
Jon's attitude is right IMO. It's just plain wrong how horrible jumps competing skiers are made into sometimes. Many times the winner is the one who just manages to suppress his instinct of self-preservation. In America the situation is a little better, but here in Europe, it's a mess. We, the riders, should be more picky about the jumps we are supposed to hit at comps and at our local mountains.
