It appears that we shall see how much good nike does for skiing in the near future...I think it all rests on the attitude of the athletes who ski for them. Hopefully sammy and all the other big name skiers keep thier heads in the right place, because it really could mean the end of skiing as we know it if they don't
nike sucks, they are a brander, they do not make things, they brand things. they are part of an unsustainable global system that will end skiing on snow.
correction: adidas is a former owner of salomon. salomon split off a few years ago and relocated in SLC. and who cares if nike will make ski boots, they probably won't. the nke 6.0 team, which is what sammy is on, is nike's action sports dept that makes sick shoes, they also sponsor a ton of up and coming kids in action sports (like snowboarding, wakeboard/skate, surf, bmx, mt. biking, and skiing)
haha this is rediculous, nike is sponsor, who cares. There like anyones else they pay an athlete to wear there shit so they can sell more of it, and thats it... Its no big deal, Salomon, Oakley, Nike its all the same stuff thats how athletes like sammy and everyone make money, there not sell outs there just people skiing for fun and making a living while they do it. There is no such thing as people being sell outs there just making the best out of what they have. Fuck all the hate... Everyone should be pumped that an 18 year old is making scrilla doing what we all love... nuff said
in response to xpingxpongx's rediculous comments: Dont be all freaked out because "nike wasnt there in the beginning" because a lot of companies we have learned to love were not as well. with out the introduction of new companies throughout the life of skiing, companies in the industry will be able to comfortably sit on their marketshare. what new entrants like nike due is keep competition high, which keeps prices low. so unless you want to pay higher prices in the future, accept that nike could be beneficial to us. skiings fate will be stronger with growing popularity.
how is major company endorsements a bad thing whatsoever...."mainstreaming the sport"...being mainstream in a for profit world is what you as a skier should be sooo hyped on mann
live it up
sammy is so tight and i have skied wit him a bunch
Every single one of you can talk about Nike and whether or not it's good for skiing until you're blue in the face, but the fact is if you were a professional skier and they offered to sponsor you, every last one of you would take it. If you deny that you're delusional or a fuckin liar. If you're not down with Nike, don't buy their products, it's a far more effective way of expressing your displeasure than sitting on this site dissing Sammy for doing something every last one of you would do.
he was super cool at IF3, and about tanner being waisted..i think i have more respect for him after that adventure of getting him to the club. I will NEVER forget that 4 block walk wiht tanner and Chris benchetler, (and some other ppl i dont know). Even being wasted tanner was still signing posters and talking to people etc. So any one who hates on tanner for being h-core and hanging with his fans, is a big fag. As for sammy, I didnt get the chance to meet him, but he was just running around excited and signing stuff, he fo sho cares about this sport and the riders.
and remember for those still in doupt, skiers are paid to ski.. not to act right. im sure if were all famous we would have something to lip you about too
Nike + TV Commercials = More Gapers. The sport doesn't need promotion in ski towns. Everyone who takes it seriously doesn't need to see it on tv. Its all the tourists who will be sporting our stuff. Forget this progression crap, its all about dolla dolla bills.
