maybe selling out wasn't the correct way to put it, but I feel like the new school skiing world gives so much to Jon and he give even more back. Why should he create a google company that is aimed completely away from most of our budgets. I just lose a lot of respect for someone when they try and put themselves above the rest of a community in a flash, economic way.
And I also believe you can sell out on the higher end of things, just like j lindenburg. Very few of us could afford his outerwear and now very few of us can afford his goggles. Its just seems like he is flaunting all his flashy gear from above us all.
man that song reminds me when i was most stoked for skiing too. it was a time when anything was possible and no one knew where skiing was going, just that it was going in a good direction. Tanner killed it in that section of Happy Days. D-spin 10 like what!?
Awesome edit. I didn't really understand the whole part at the beginning and how it tied in, but whatever it was still a solid edit. good to see you back skiing urban jon.
Wow, the goggle side of this whole conversation is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. I'm not sure if any of you actually read the article, but THE GOGGLES ARE TARGETED TOWARD RICH PEOPLE. There are way to many comments here that are like, "ew, those are ugly" or "I can't afford that, those things are mad lame," when you don't seem to get that Jon does not expect you to like them and that you are not his target group. When he came up with these goggles, he wanted to create something that older people with more traditional styles (and more money) are going to be interested in buying because that's the average consumer in his target market. Therefore, they're not designed to appeal to us and it's completely expected that most of the people here, including myself, find this eyewear really ugly and highly overpriced. With that in mind, stop complaining about how much they suck and cost too much; you're not supposed to like them, so stop bitching.
Furthermore, to all the people ripping on Jon because he's pitching his product toward a different consumer (*cough* Willy.C *cough*), you're ideas are equally as unreasonable and irrational. Stop putting down the guy because he found a unique market to make good money in. That's simply called being business-savvy and making smart retail decisions. Thus, instead of starting-up a goggle company that pitches its product to the same market dominated by big names like Oakley and Smith, as well as Spy, Dragon, Anon, Shred, etc. and that would ultimately face a quick death in the face of unbeatable competition, he's making a smart move and focusing in on a consumer that doesn't specifically have a product to fulfill its needs. That's smart and for that I really respect the man.
Also, to Willy.C in particular, what are you talking about when you say "the new school skiing world gives so much to Jon and he gives even more back. Why should he create a goggle company that is aimed completely away from most of our budgets?"? Yes, you're right, Jon does do a lot for the core ski community and vise versa, but if anything, that should give him more credibility in his new company because it goes to show that although these goggles aren't for us, he still cares about our community. Furthermore, I'm also confused as to how this can be calling trying and putting oneself "above the rest of the community in a flash, economic way." The guy lives a high lifestyle. He's a model, he drives a Lambo, he wears designer clothes, he lives in Monaco, and he works with tons of companies outside of skiing. That's not him flaunting his wealth, that's just Jon and part of what he does for a living. Similarly, if he's doing so much for our community, I don't think he would feel the need to "flaunt his flashy gear" since he obvious generously cares about this sport and the skiers within it. He doesn't need to show off, nor does he want to. He earns respect by the things he does and that's the way it should be.
Sorry to rant, but I'm just in the mood to haha. It's in good humor.
Regarding the vid, I liked it a lot and am super stoked to see the rest of them in the coming days.
