Don't want to be the one to say it but he could of easily got put in a wheelchair. You need to practice tons so your first time you get around easy. A 9 year old doing that with no idea is dumb.

Kinda like my first and last try at a backflip. Didn't have a clue what I was doing haha went off a jump and leaned back. I just tried to arch my neck back as much as I could, I almost got it but I caught my ski tips on the nuckle and landed on my face. Then proceeded to roll over my head with the rest of my body (landed a front flip on the ground pretty much haha) sketchy shit. I guess good try bro, and yea longer skis, and know what your doing next time. Also if you just decide to go for it again, don't think just go, it's a lot easier.
