^I get this feeling when people ski in guided groups in the BC they feel no need to wear and bring gear because the guide is there and he will save them. Almost a controlled expirience...Couldn't be more wrong.
ok..so what happens if one or more of them is buried in an avie.....
the other 5 of you gonna dig them out with your hands?
you guys may have beacons on, but relying on just the guides to save is kind of dumb. everyone there should have to gear and knowledge to save you life. relying on a few is stupid IMO.
what really gets me is the guides allowing that to happen. I'm sure their knowledge of terrain and snowpack allows them to guide and control the group so their avie exposure is minimal, but the danger is always there and allowing people to ski BC without the correct gear is careless.
you cant make a business where you require every rider to wear uncomfurtable backpacks with 15 pounds of gear. nonetheless the procedures that we went through to educate ourselves on avies was very extensive prior to getting on a pitch. a lead guide and 2 to 3 tail guides wearing packs as well as the gear you see there was plenty for the terrain we were focusing on.
nonetheless it was a great trip and i/we had a lot of good times.
honesly calling me a hater for suggesting you wear avalanche equitment in the BC is ignorant.
im glad it was a great trip and I never knocked it.
but to suggest you can run a business where you require people to where avie gear is stupid as every BC, Heli, and Cat operation as well as certain ski areas like Silverton require everyone to have avalanche gear when they ski. And wearing all the gear.....all the weight of the backpack, shovel, and probe? it weights that much?! If it is too much then stop being a pussy or go back to that park.
im glad you recieved some education on avies before exposing yourself to avie terrain, but i'm guessing it was in reality very minimal. Teach you anything about anaylsis snowpack, weather, and terrain? did you actual DO any of that?
know how to use a beacon and perform first-aid?
where you even wearing a fucking beacon?!
calling me a hater for trying to prevent stupid people in the backcountry who rely on other people to protect them from injury and death is fucking retarded.
travelling and using the BC safely isn't hard to do if you do it right.
Seeing a d hearing people on this site talk about the "backcountry" is frequently painful as the level of BC ignroance is unbelieveable.
I'm not trying to be a hater on what looks like a great trip....
I'm trying to avoid people ignoring what consitutes safe travel in the BC.
What is shown in these photos is that your group was not adequately prepared for serious BC travel. Hopefully that inadequacy never catches up to you.....
