40 footer in vail 2 years ago
i don't remember seeing any 40ft cliffs in china bowl... hmmm, you sure it was 40 dude? 'cause 40ft is preaty big.

Yea to the ground its like 25-30 in some spots, but there's this catwalk right under it so you have to clear that too, I have a picture of just the cliff, I'll see if I can get it scanned.

if i'm right, those cliffs are in the bottom part of the bowl almost to the lift. they are across the bowl from the cat track. we launch those a lot cause most people don't go over there so the landings are soft, but the the biggest drop over there is only like 20 feet, so you would have to hit it with pretty good speed to go 40.

Yea iggy I think we're talking about the same, I just remember that I had to get over the catwalk, and I can remember being in the air for a little over a second, and since objects fall at 32 ft/s^2, it was around 40 or so.

no offence, but i dont think you can time yourself falling in your head, to determin the size of the cliff...i did a 30 footer once and it felt like i was in the air for like 3 seconds....so i think you're full of it....and point of advice...if you take pics of cliffs, take it from the side, looking uphill (way better angle...and you get cool mountain peaks in the background and stuff)

..the pic is nice,I know there are some big drops in vail, but your physics sucks...dont forget about resistance which would effect the speed of your fall (big jacket, skis, etc...there are other variables but I wont keep going cause now i sound like a f#$king dork

Lift from the coat is negligible, the surface area of the skis is probably no more than 210 cubic inches (pretty negligible too) and they might actually create a negative downard component since the skis are past the 0 plane on the x axis (ever seen the tip of along jumper go negative?)
