Youtube vs. vimeo

just wondering why youtube is still so much more popular? i think its kinda obvious that vimeo has better quality. does it have something to do with how hard it is to compress a video into one format or another? i have no video uploading knowledge, so if im making myself sound like an ass that's why...
 
well i mean of course we all do, but youtube is still farrrrrrrrrrrr more popular so normal people still just use youtube
 
vimeo is more for artistic video like sports edits and animation, while youtube is for videos of people farting or cows falling over.
