Your Surface Ski Experiance.

I wanna hear people stories about their surface skis.

Personally, i bought Surface GreenLifes ( watchlifes with different top sheets ). The top sheets chipped away all down the side in the first 10 days. They felt very heavy, stiff and un responsive. After 11 days of riding i have 4 underfoot edge cracks, 2 of which are lifting.

Today i was riding at my local mountain, my buddy ended up snapping the core of his No Times doing a 540 on a 10foot medium jump.

Get the Watch Life, One life, or the Live Lifes. They are the original and best models. And yes, the tops sheets have a habit of chipping, but it's purely cosmetic. I always found the skis responsive and poppy as hell.

I was in search of powskis.

Bought Ninthward Rory Silva's (no rocker) and used them. They felt heavy, and basically were everything you described about your Surface skis.
Demo a pair of Surface skis for like 7 days for only $20 (this is going right to Surface), than I buy a pair right after because I was so impressed (with how they skied).
One Life's were nimble, light, confidence building, fun, and basically everything I could ever want. They floated awesome and on and on I could go here. I enjoy them

I guess I dunno about top sheet chipping. Mine chipped, but I dunno dude. All my skis chip. It's not like I can stop them? I don't think they chipped excessively easy or anything though....
I dunno dooooooood. Its nothing I give a fuck about even though.\

Nine lives.

After 1 week at breck and 1 week of preseason jibbing my top sheets are pretty rag and there are edge cracks.

But i love the way they ski, light, stiff.

Because this thread will draw out a good sample of experiences, not just the totally positive or totally negative.

Good shit to hear, just got new One Lifes mounted for the season.
I think the sandwich construction is just prone to chipping like that, same deal with the 08-09 T-Halls. As opposed to Suspects. But as said it's just cosmetic.

I have one lifes. I have used them one time and I love them so far. As far as topsheet chipping, they do seem to chip alot, and when they do they kinda splinter and peel a bunch. Not really an issue, its just not the most durable topsheet.

i used to have watch lifes probably 3 or 4 years ago, when all they made was that and live life.
i personally liked them. yeah, they were a little stiff and the topsheet chipped, but they were light and pretty poppy which was nice. i liked them a lot better than my lines that i also had.
dunno about the newer ones though.

Ive had 2 pair of new lifes, live lifes, no times and walk free. I love every single one of them. All of them chip but I've never owned skis that don't get top sheet damage. I won't ski anything but surface now.

top sheet chipping is normal... and doesn't affect the performance of the ski. Stop making this out to be like it is a fashion show on snow. For the people that got edge cracks while doing rails, think about it you are hitting one piece of metal against another one of them is bound to eventually break. For the people that snapped their cores, that sucks but i guess its just luck of the draw.

ONe lifes are sick (pm me if you want a pair, trying to get rid of some)

My brother has been skiing the LL2's a couple season and loves them.

This

Ive skied on k2s, lines, and now I mostly ride the new life and yeah the new lifes chip a bunch but every ski does. If you are aggressively riding them you have to expect that because you going to be banging them together.

I have seens a lot of surface skis break but Ive never heard of anyone having a bad experience trying to warranty them. The dudes at surface are such homies and if you talk to them for a while they will hook it up if you broke their ski.

i have a pair of new lifes and they're basically everything i want in a pow ski. symmetrical, fat, 3 stage rocker, light, and super fun all around. yeah, the topsheets chip, but show mw a pair of skis that doesn't.
love em

i have teh black and white watch lifes

chip a bit but they are super fun to ski on a i like the flex and pop of them

no edge crack or anything.

looking into getting double times, anyone care to chime in?

two pairs of watch lives and they both kill it amazing skis nothing besides the general wear and tear from rails and watnot like top sheet chipping some scratches in the bottom nothing major at all, edges are great

Everything I've heard about surface skis" mostly park skis" have been bad. Everything from edges ripping out to the ski snapping" I've seen 3 surface skis snap" .

I like my no times so far. 2 weeks in Europe over the summer and a couple days into the season they are holding up well. Edges are slightly soft, but hey they are 399 dollar skis, not 600 dollar on3ps. I think are a decent value..

I have a pair of Live Lifes, great skis.

About 20 days on them, only a couple of cosmetic chips, nbd.

I would defiantly recommend live lifes, I cant really speak for the rest of surfaces line up though.

I got a pair of doubletimes. very minor topsheet chips. A couple small but not bad dingers in bases from hitting some rocks. Stiff ski but they kill everything. I love them.

i rode my ninelifes for the first time today and i must say they are the best ski i have ridden they are super flexible. Strangely enough though the top layer is already chipping

false, every ski gets topsheet chipping.some are worse than others, but if your skis have edges, you're going to get topsheet chips.

I think the JJ vs. Bentchetler vs. One Life vs. SFB is a classic debate that could go on forever
I would be happy with any from the reviews of them all, but I like my One Life's.

Who am I to judge? I just like to ski pow and look at boobs.

Exactly. Cap skis will tend to chip less, but most sidewall skis do chip because you have exposed composite layers for edges to catch on, rather than a rounded piece of thin plastic.

Why the hell are so many people complaining about topsheet chipping this year, ITS COSMETIC DAMAGE ALREADY. Theres a simple way to keep your skis from looking used, all you have to do is never ride your skis.

I have LL2's and Watchlifes from a few seasons ago.

My experiences with the LL2 has been nothing but good, I've had the absolute most fun powder days of my life on those skis

I just bought the watchlifes this season and I have yet to make up my opinion. I wouldn't say they are anything extra special but they serve their purpose for me.

I am yet to ski my New Lifes, cos I'm still waiting for it to friggin well snow, but I'll let you know when I do.

So tell him to send them in? Mike will hook up a new pair asap. Sounds like your friend got a defected ski.

Well not for cracked edges, no company will. But if his friend indeed snapped his skis on a small jump, he obviously had a defect pair and will get a new pair. All of the surface riders beat their skis so hard and yeah they break some but not on a 10ft jump. His friend must have literally landing tips first.

NO SKI MANUFACTURER WILL WARRANTY RAIL DAMAGED SKIS
Why do you people not understand that? It's like lifting your pickup truck and expecting the dealer to warranty your transmission when it blows up. If you could warranty rail damaged skis you could get a free new pair every year because no ski is going to hold up to heavy park skiing.

I bought LL2s a year ago and absolutley love them, best ski I have ever owned...

Although

In september I ordered some no times from them and LL. They said the skis would be here before Halloween and responded to my emails daily... It's now December 13 and no skis have arrived, they have stopped responding to my emails for 2-3 weeks now... I'm pretty bummed, I have always loved Surface but this is some serious bullshit. At least respond to my emails, this is not how you are suppose to run a company.

GUIZE! MY EDGE BROKE!! I DON'T KNOW WHY!! I WAS JUST SKIING POW WITH LITTLE BASE, JUST HITTING HIDDEN ROCKS AND SHIT. SURFACE SUCKS AND SHOULD WARRANTY THIS. IT'S THEIR FAULT!

In all seriousness though.... I was joking. Surface is legit. I love their skis. I love my One Lifes more than anything else I own. I practically puked when I saw this damage.

The One Life is the most solid, stable, maneuverable, anything and everything versatile ski I have ever owned. When I get a chance, I'm getting a new pair of One Lifes instead of a park ski. I have not had a single problem with these skis. Sure, Surface seems to have park ski problems, but I haven't heard anything bad about their other skis.

I recommend Surface to anyone.

As for OP, the Green Lifes are the same mold, flex and dimensions as the Watch Life, but using recycled materials instead, such as bases and sidewall. Not just a different topsheet.

People do need to get over the fact that topsheet damage does occur, as does edge cracking. Deal with it.
