to a certain point, the family of a significant other can be a factor, but if a girl is truly worth it then you should learn to accept the family as is.
On a somewhat related note, the way she treats her family is very relevant. If she is disrespectful, rude, etc. to her family, then chances are at some point she will begin to treat you the same.

i guess my girlfriends dad was an "enforcer" for a gang. My girlfriend knows of 3 guys he has legitimately killed. But he doesnt ever talk about it, so there are likely many more. this is her with him

Asked a chick to prom in high school. A couple of days later I drove to her house and met her parents who were gang quality people. Her dad was in his 40s and sat on the far end of the couch. I was constantly darting my eyes over making sure he didn't pull some shit. Her mother figure had to have been in her 20's so it must have been her step mom or something. They were really rude, the house reeked, and their hair seemed to have not been washed for weeks.
I was scared for my life. When I left I vowed never to go back into that house.
But when prom came around, it seemed like they turned into different people. They were really respectful, and nice. I felt bad to judge them like that. Her mom dressed up nice and I took this picture of them together!

It turned out great. We had a really nice time after prom too if you know what I'm saying. Her parents were cool and accepting of it, they obviously heard it!
A few days later she texted me asking if I wanted to go with her and her dad up to go fishing. We went, me and her dad talked about the sex, he padded me on the back and said, "I'm glad it was you son. If you ever get kicked out, know that you have a home with us."
Since then the family has been close friends of mine, I'm always bouncing ideas off of them and they give me advice. I'm now tutoring her mom because she wants to get her high school diploma. It gives me a purpose in life to help these people out.
So OP, if you are going to judge you're girlfriend by her family you can, but it might come back to bite you and you may be very wrong when you get to know them. Get to know them, no matter how odd it is. Just don't go into their basement, there are definitely dead bodies down there.

Oh and OP you better really like this girl if you are going to have to put up with total shit heads as inlaws and you and her are going to be serious. This might be a sign to look into other options and play the field. Finding a new GF will be easy if you have one already. Particularly if there is someone you like already in a relationship your cahnce to get with her and break that shit up and move in is now get on social media and start chatting to the girl you really like don't be cowardly about that or a bitch if your friends with the BF he can deal and stick to jerking off and crying about it.
If the mom is nasty looking and looks older than her age your gf isn't going to age well particularly if shes a little thick and they are all fatasses she probably will turn into one and can't help it. Generally her parents are divorced and the dad shows little to no affection. I don't mind.

Well, no matter how weird they may be, as long as the girls parents love eachother and have a healthy relationship in which she is being molded to then I don't know why you would have an issue. I'm way more sketched out by the whorish parents, who divorce when they are ready for new excitement, just raising the most fucked up of kids.
