Good lord the colors are desaturated.. oh well, crits welcome!

The first one is great. Nice intimate feel and soft light for soft features, well done. The only thing which is a bit distracting is the inconsistent light between the eyes, could be a personal preference though.

The second one isn't doing too much for me. Nice depth of field and contrast between subject and background but the fill flash (I'm assuming) is flattening out her facial features (maybe go off camera with a diffuser) and the light temperature on her face is also a bit ashy (might be my monitor though).

Really good fill light on the third one and i love the composition. The low angle gives her an interesting dominating look. The colors in her face look a tiny bit desaturated on my monitor though, again a bit ashy.

Nice light on the fourth, good detail throughout the image and the tight crop works well. A bit more dynamic light on the face would be nice but thats being pretty picky.

The fifth is probably my favorite. Great rim lighting and the catch light in the eyes really makes the image pop. Love the gesture and the way the subject breaks up the perpendicular lines of the background. A bit of color noise in the shadows though (Low ISO or maybe just the interwebs fuckin with resolution).

Not a huge fan of the 6th. Nice portrait for sure, but the crop is a bit too tight or loose (just snipping the top of his head is a bit awkward) and the color noise on his neck is really distracting.

I like the last one, nice composition. The little brown snip on the left side of the frame could be stamped out though.

Good shots fo sho... me gusta

First off Thank You..

For my follow up, 1st shot, was hoping to have her hair cover her eye, so that was intentional, but I see what you are saying.

2nd shot, Its not your monitor it is very 'ashy' (gray?) / flat. I purposely underexposed the flash, so that the picture gave a different feel.

3rd shot however should not be flat, I wish I could show you a print of the shot, I had a polarizer on so the colors are exceptionally sharp, where as they are extremely flat here.

6th shot, yeah it didnt bother me, but it just wasnt that I notice as they have never bothered me. But I do know that cropping like that bothers a lot of people so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

By ashy you do mean gray/flat right? This was only my second and third time working with models, and we were required to shoot certain ways (trigger/fill on cam/main on cam) so I know some of the shots would of worked better with different flash work. Techyes, not sure if youve ever done modeling shots like these, but I highly suggest trying it once, its a lot of fun and Im sure you could get some great shots!

i get depressed every time you post, because your shots are infinitely better than mine probably ever will be.

I know you were joking, but I honestly think its true. It gives the appearance of being art, as opposed to being a photograph. Im tempted to post a sub par image in the next contest and frame it, and see how it does..

its so true... the reason I started doing it was for flickr. Any image with a white edge was getting lost on the screen, hence the border so you can tell where my image ends and the background begins.

oh. i wuzzzjust gonna say that the picture i took of that girl jumping across benches was at glen echo.

liberty is way better though. half the gape and the park can't even compare

p.s. the breedlove in this picture probably cost more than your house.

yeah i know it sucks haha but its just easier to get to whitetail. idk we've always just gone there. habit i guess.

haha go to liberty a few times next season. there are a few other girls there. they kind of kill it haha

one more of the dogs?

^sweet azzzz... I just took some pics of my apartment's half rottweiler, half pitbull, which is, surprisingly, the friendliest dog ever.

A couple color slides from over spring break that I finally got around to working on. I'm not really excited about either, but I think I'm going to shoot a bunch over the summer while I'm in Idaho and see what I can make of it.

Ink+%26+Bleach.jpg

Now I finally have to quit working on this since the semester is over, but I'll have the entire series up on my website soon.

these are truly amazing... the second one especially. How were you able to control the acid so carefully on her face?

That was actually done with potassium ferricyanide, which is a pretty common photographic bleach. With most of the liquid manipulations I got the negative wet and just stuck it onto a sheet of clear acrylic so I could see what I was doing, then got to work. For the bleach I just mixed it up and put it on with a paintbrush, then let it run around the negative since the surface was wet. The edges were actually a bit too harsh initially, so I went back and feathered them out a bit. Then I put a drop of ink on it and pushed it around with a straw, which left the little white lines.
