Caught an amazing sunset from Smuggs a few weeks back. I really enjoy the simplicity of 1 or 2 tone mountain ridges... I've found myself getting better at finding pleasing lines in them but still definitely have room to improve. Anyone have any tips/feedback?

Couple of shots driving home last night.

Completely love the first shot!

Not sure what camera you're using, but if you have the ability to bump up the f/stop a stop or two, you could have. On the second photo I'm having trouble telling exactly what is in focus on the flower. Another stop would have gotten the whole flower in focus, while still keeping that nice background blur.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as mean-spirited, just trying to give some constructive criticism.

Thanks! I'm using a Nikon D80 with a 18-55mm kit lens (first shot) and 50mm/1.8 (second shot). I definitely wasn't being as intentional as I should have on the second shot, but I love the first shot too.

Still working on playing around with what works and what doesn't and generally just trying to shoot a lot and keeping what (sort of) works.

Definitely appreciate criticism and you didn't come across as mean spirited at all.

Not one to really do flower shots but this one seemed to turn out decent.

Should've I turned the aperture up more? I was trying to draw attention to the flower in front but now I think I should've just had the entire foreground in focus.

I haven't checked this thread in about a year now but I'm so stoked to see all of the great stuff in here! All of you guys are doing some awesome work, I'll definitely have to post soon.

my only criticism would be the harsh light, may have been what you are going for but it really just makes harsh shadows or blown out color detail, awesome shot though. a way to diffuse the direct light can be as easy as holding a piece of paper covering the direct sunlight. hope i don't sound like a complete dick

Ha, no not at all. I'll have to bring some paper with me next time. Thanks!

A few from the last few weeks

My fav of the bunch, but other than it being a tad soft I wish it was framed a bit up and to the left to place the jagged mountains and deer in opposing corners for accentuation purposes.

Or maybe something like this? I'm a sucker for vertical landscapes...

Thanks man. I agree it's a bit soft. It was my first time out with my new tripod. It's super light, but not incredibly stable. I also had it extended all the way with a longer lens (70-300), also contributing to the instability. It'll be awesome for travelling though. I have a trip to Iceland coming up, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing before then. Ha ha

Sweet! That's gunna be awesome I'm sure. A tip I've found very useful for when using a tripod, especially a cheap one, is to use a delay or a remote shutter so that you don't capture the initial slight shake from pressing the shutter.

Super stereotypical tourist shot from Moraine Lake, but whatever. Despite the crazy amount of people, it's still an incredible place.

edit needs work. you picked the worst time of day for a picture of that place, but it could be much better with a better edit. *not trying to be a dick*

I definitely know it was a bad time. Some other time I'll get up stupid early so I can be there for good light, but not this week. Either that, or I'll just wait until later in the year. Also, I've only been playing with Lightroom for a couple of weeks, so definitely still figuring stuff out.

(No worries. No dick-ishness felt. Only way to get better is input from others!)

Agreed on a better time of day but fuck, you have to get up at like 4am this time of year

I drove with a buddy at 3 am from banff, pulled into the parking lot and slept for 45 mins before running out to beat the asian tourists for the best spot. worth it

Havent been doing much shooting or editing since college started.

Something seems off about the second one...but my pilot friend was saying how he loved it so eh....any tips on them? trying to get back into the swing of things

Glad i had my camera in my trunk. Pulled into a random school parking lot and took a couple of quick shots before the storm hit. Pretty happy with this one.

Lot of noise in this photo but i still love it. I can't wait to get my new camera which will handle noise a lot better

What are you using for a lense?

Rafting in Southern Utah, had some clear skies with horizon storms, made for some great photos.
