To get photos like this do you just make the shutter speed very slow?

the two from ground level were handheld with a faster lens, but the rooftop and CN Tower shots were done with a 15-30 second exposure, i can't remember exactly

So, I took a lot of photos this summer and never posted many of them in this thread. So here's a slideshow of my best work. Thoughts?

That picture of the Katahdin sign...Goosebumps.

Finally got around to uploading pics from work this fall. Off season is great, all the critters are out and about and nobody is on the hill

1: Can't see shit.

2: Beginning of a Russian amateur POV porn video regarding incest and flat-chested girls with gritty talk and bad translations.

Take an honest good look of what you are posting.

Okay then. That's the last time I post in this thread, I'm done with people like you who think you're better than everyone and can give me shit. I used to love Newschoolers, everyone was kind and respectful and grateful for this place we all call home and can interact with others who share our passion. You're the kind of Newschooler that makes me not like it. Thanks for ruining it. Peace.

If you can't handle criticism, then don't post it Sally.

Honestly, the second one is just not that good and the first one is just boring, poorly composed and dark.

I don't know how often you browse M&A, but if you are new, here is a simple guideline; The point of this thread is kinda to have your work critiqued, if you can't take any shade over your work, whether it's very harsh or it's put nicely, then just don't post. Also, I don't think Lawrence is being mean, he just has to maintain his pretentious reputation and use of hyper-specific obscure porn references.

You probably shouldn't stop posting you work here (or any other photo forum) if you want to improve

People like you are the ones who give "criticism" a negative connotation by degrading the entire practice of open critique for the sake of padding your fragile ego. What did you want, to be patted on the back for simply making an effort?

I'm going to tell you something you probably don't want to hear, and I swear I have nothing against you personally. I'm telling you this because many of us used to be like you, and we deeply regret it. Are you ready?

Suck it up.

You need to realize that criticism is your friend, and that compliments are dangerous.

"But criticism should be polite and civ" -- STOP. Criticism should not be palatable. It should hurt. The difference between "constructive criticism" and "being an asshole" is determined by your ability to man up and entertain the idea that people will shit on your work either silently or visibly, and that it's more conducive to your personal growth to get it out on the table rather than pretend it doesn't exist (or worse, dismiss them as "haters"). This one's on you.

If you can't handle that, you can't be an artist.

I wasn't shitting on him. I just gave him some advice that any of us wished we got when we were new.

If I wanted to be a patronizing dick, do you know what I would've said?

"Nice photo :)"

I decided to check a camera out from my schools media center for a couple days. This is the best I could do.

What did you use for these gear wise? they look great!

All taken with the Fuji X100. Thing is an absolute beast that makes me want to sell all my DSLR shit and get the X-Pro2

Any particular reason? I've been looking at the X-Pro for a while now, but can't get past my extreme paranoia of digital sensor knees. I've tried to be open minded but have been let down by digital too many times.

I just love the images that come out of it. Seems like the raw picture is always a lot closer to what I want than what comes out of my DSLR. Really fun to shoot with too, I don't shoot much sports anymore and am gaining a new appreciation for the small size.

I don't know much about sensors really. I know you're a big film guy. For me I just love the way my Fuji's pictures look, and I'm definitely not the only one who feels this way about them. I've also used my old man's X20 a bit and have been very impressed by that as well. I imagine the X-Pro is great

This type of feedback is more meaningful that spec sheets, I've found.

I hope I can really put one through the ringer one of these days. If I'm not satisfied, I'll just go buy that Mamiya 7 I've had my eye on since forever.
