You know that funny prankster Remi Gaillard?

Are you kidding me? He's been doing that shit for years on end, and that's how he got recognized at first, not the pranks (first big one was Rocky I think).

Remi for the motherfucking win.

clear up a few things...

Remi has never played professionally. I believe he was on an amateur side though. So he's never played for France.

And he actually got famous for his football videos before he started doing the pranks. I think the first one is called put it where you want it, or something similar. He does it in paris, and it's probably the funniest of them all.

And those aren't riots, that's straight up celebration. That's from after his hometown team (and the jersey he wears in the videos)won the league for the first time in their history. Montpellier HSC.

fun fact actually, that team will be playing in new york city on july 28.

Clear up a few things...

here in america its called Soccer

here in america soccer is considered a dumb sport

And that's where I'll disagree. Yes we call it soccer, which is fucking dumb. And to say soccer is dumb is quite an ignorant statement. Much harder to play (and be successful)than baseball or football. It lacks respect because:

1. It's not a contact sport

2. People give it a bad wrap because players take dives...like in hockey...not because they are actually hurt. Saying soccer players are pussies because they FAKE injuries just makes you sound dumb.

dude ive played all my life, it's not. Yeah it can get physical but really nothing more than shoving and the occasionally trip. It's not designed for physical contact, like football, hockey, and lacrosse are.

this, newschoolers aint american haha and I don't like football(soccer) but I still have respect for it, not like the other ignorant fuck

soccer harder to play than football? you gotta be kidding

i think the dudes on ESPN say the hardest thing to do in any major sport is the hit a major league pitch.

hockey players take dives? yea, why dont you talk to Brett Hull and his 8 broken noses

and he didnt say soccer players were pussies, you did

in terms of sheer skill required, I'd put soccer above football. Yes a QBs, kickers, and receivers all require skill...but everything is easier to do with your hands than your feet. Placing a pass with your arm is difficult, but doing it with your feet is harder.

Plus every player needs to have that ability to some extent, whereas in football there are guys who's only job is literally to get in the way. Size and sheer force...impressive, but not quite the same as in soccer.

And i think it's generally accepted that while most hockey players are ridiculously durable, dives do occur.

In the end they're all independent sports, so doing absolute in depth comparisons is stupid and childish.

kickers? you include kickers in your example of the most skillful football players. how bout DBs instead. the difference is football is so much more than just run, pass, catch. executing plays with the precision of a surgeon, if you dont your gonna get your shit rocked by ray lewis. soccer players dont have to worry about either plays or getting leveled. it just makes football that much more difficult

any NFL DB or WR could be a professional soccer player if they grew up playing the sport. maybe not premiere league but at some level. very few premiere soccer players are built to withstand to brutality that is football and probably wouldnt even make a D1 roster at any position besides kicker

sure hockey players take dives. and giant meteors hit the earth and wipe out almost all life. to compare hockey players to soccer players in terms of taking dives, as granite did, is retarded.

and yea, its really dumb to try to compare them. But the OP brought it up

I brought it up because I'm sick of people being like "soccers dumb. Muricah! Football!"

And soccer players don't have a book of plays they can reference. They have to develop their own strategy as the game is going on.

It's all in how you train. Of course football players could play soccer and may be successful but the same could be said for soccer players playing american football. If they did the same workouts and training regiments as football players, and started doing them at the same age football players did, guess what? They could most certainly play foot ball.

I wasn't comparing dives between the two sports, I was simply stating that soccer isn't the only sport with dives, and furthermore, a tough "manly" sport has players that take dives as well. You mention Brett Hull but what about the Sedins and Suban? You can almost count on them for at least 1 dive every game.

I'm not trying to start an argument, It's just mine (and a lot more people's) opinion that soccer just requires a lot more natural talent and skill to play football. I'm not trying to take anything away from football players, I'm just stating what I believe to be true.

To clear up a few things:

He got famous in France (and neighboring countries) in 2002 when at the finals of the Coupe de France. Disguised as an FC Lorient player, he celebrated the team's victory with the players, shook the hand of the then French President Jacques Chirac and signed autographs, without anyone realizing that he was not a player on the team.

He has being doing pranks since 1999, and I've had his website bookmarked since 2001.

That was long before he made his "football" skills videos.

This is true. I got elbowed going up for a ball in my game last night and woke up with a huge bruise on my nose. It's way more contact than people (including my pastself) believe

anyone having a go at soccer is stupid, the best soccer players make more than the best nfl players could dream of...

oh jeez, how did i ever forget about the imposter videos?! I think it's because he hasn't done anything like it in so long that i completely forgot about them.

The french cup victory celebration is absurd. I think my favorite though was the rugby one, where not only did he pretend to be a player, but he acted as their captain and that's how he got found out

Alright here's my two cents

First of all, don't even get hockey involved in this argument. On ESPN's list of the top 50 most DIFFICULT sports to play (they took into effect hand-eye coordination, stamina, agility, power, size, etc... basically every aspect of any sport), Hockey was NUMBER 2, behind Boxing.

A simple explanation to WHY soccer players dive is because of the lack of scoring opportunities in soccer. Soccer/football/whatever you want to call it is a game of glory moments and one goal games. A high score in soccer would be 4 to 1, as opposed to hockey or lacrosse or various other sports where scores can reach double digits. This is partly why people find soccer boring to watch (I beg to differ). That being said, a successful dive can result in a penalty, which, hopefully, can result in a goal. Soccer players will do ANYTHING for that tiny advantage. It doesn't matter if there was no contact, if it could possibly lead to a goal and a win, they'll dive and face the criticism for it. Sports like hockey and football don't need dives because a hockey goal or a touchdown is nowhere NEAR as rare as a soccer goal.

Next, personally I believe that Soccer is more difficult than Football. Football is rougher (obviously), but Soccer is the most mentally draining sport I have ever experienced. EVERY second you are on the field you HAVE to be thinking. On top of that, position is huge in soccer, moreso than in hockey, lacrosse, or baseball (three sports I've played as well). Soccer gets physical, and oftentimes have I seen kids split their heads open going up for headers in the crease, and soccer also requires extreme technicality and agility with and without the ball at your feet. You'll never truly understand the difficulty of some plays unless you play the sport, and let me tell you, everything that professional soccer players do has massive thinking behind it, and hours and hours of practice to back it up. Football has numerous plays, and each player runs their part in them. Soccer has no plays, everything is on the fly. Of course, certain objectives exist when attacking and defending, but each is subject to change if the unexpected happens, and most of the time, it does.

And to the guy who said hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do, I agree, but that has practically nothing to do with the rest of the argument. I think Soccer is more difficult than Baseball personally, but then again Hockey is by far the most difficult in my opinion. I'm not Canadian either haha.

not to mention most soccer players play the entire game without a rest. that's 90 minutes straight running with a couple small breaks on corner kicks.

this leads to my last point, SOCCER PLAYERS TAKE DIVES TO REST. Soccer coaches have been know to tell players to dive when their team is visibly exhausted and needs a break. That 3 minute rest is just enough to give them the edge, or to collect the team and bring them back into the game. It's like a timeout... without calling a timeout.

Some hockey players do dive. I think the rules in hockey just prevent diving better. Soccer players dive more because it's easier to get the other player kicked out of the game.

lost it. literary lol'd

And as far as soccer. It is more contact than people think... It takes more all around skill than most football players.

To whoever said football is harder because you have to execute plays. Soccer has plays run regularly. The difference is try running those plays without huddling up every single time and talking about what you are about to do. Try running for 90 minutes and then surgically executing a play.

Taking dives. In every sport people take dives. It gives a tactical advantage. Football, QB Slide, Basketball.. HAHA they probably dive more than soccer players. I didnt know a basketball players natural falling motion is flailing around like a fish on asphalt...

All that being said, Rugby is the hardest sport.

Comparing sports by difficulty is silly. You're playing against other people. It doesn't matter how difficult the sport itself is, what matters is how difficult it is to be better than others. In this sense football is more difficult than handegg because football is bigger. There are much more people playing it professionally, so it's also much more difficult to be the best.

Either way, why do you care? These kinds of arguments are pointless and only promote hate.
